Bangladesh Islamic group protests against women's cricket .....

Cricinfo staff and agencies

January 28, 2007

A Muslim group has protested against the new women's league in
Bangladesh, labelling it "anti-Islamic". They have called on the
interim government to scrap the ten-team tournament in Dhaka, just
hours after the organisers were celebrating a trouble-free launch.

The hardline Islamic Constitution Movement, which has no
representation in parliament, said women's cricket, and other field
sports such as football, represented "alien culture." They called the
league "anti-Islamic."

In a statement they said: "Women's cricket and football in front of
thousands of spectators is against the country's tradition and culture
and also is anti-Muslim civilization."

The Bangladesh Cricket Board say the ten-team tournament will continue
as planned, however - as will plans for the first Bangladesh women's
side. The top thirty players from the competition will be chosen for
further training following the final.

BD fatwa over women's swimming

DHAKA, Dec 1: Women's rights organizations of Bangladesh on Wednesday
condemned the fatwa of a religious group on women's swimming which led
to the cancellation of a competition scheduled to be held in the
district of Chandpur on Tuesday.

The leaders demanded women's rights to sports in Bangladesh, saying
that the fundamentalists never wanted to ensure women's rights in all
spheres of life. The group, Anti-Islamic Activities Prevention
Committee, protested against the competition, and threatened to shut
down the whole area.

The Chandpur administration on Monday agreed to cancel the event after
more than 1,000 demonstrators took to the streets in the town, saying
that the event was "un-Islamic".

If God loves us, why does he allow so much suffering to take place ?

Oh yes, the age old question, If God loves us, why does he allow so
much suffering to take place ? Perhaps the question is better answered
what if there was no God to turn to in times of need ? What does the
Bible say ? Why do Christians suffer ?

Al Qaeda & Famine Make For Bangladesh's Toxic Mix

Al Qaeda-Famine grabbing Bangladesh

Latest news in Dhaka's press mostly is filled with sufferings of
people due to recent famine, which broke silently in the country of
150 million people. A vernacular daily named Naya Diganta (New
Horizon), published a photograph of a dead body of an unknown man in
Dhaka. Seeing this photograph, someone may assume, it was taken from
Somalia. But, no, it is from Dhaka. It is quite understandable that,
when people in the capital are dying due to lack of food, there should
be numerous deaths in the rural parts of the country. But, despite
such serious situation, authorities in Dhaka are yet to accept the
fact that the country is experiencing silent famine. They are still
continuing to argue that the situation may be called 'hidden hunger'
but not famine.

Whatever be it called, 'silent famine', as some politicians and
economists put it, or 'hidden hunger', as the food adviser termed it
on April 3, the food situation has assumed, beyond an iota of doubt...

Was Islam spread by the sword ? The myth and the reality

Islam spread by the sword ? The myth and the reality
By Sherif Mohammed

Among the most widely believed myths about Islam in the West today is the myth of forcible
conversion to Islam. Many Westerners do believe that Islam is so widespread in the world today
simply because of a "holy campaign of terror" carried out by the early Muslims to convert
non-Muslims to Islam. Non-Muslims were offered the freedom to choose either Islam or death.

In a discussion with a Baptist Minister he said to me that "Muslims tend to kill
non-Muslims and anyone who disagrees with them". In a syndicated column appearing in over 30
papers (on July 23rd, 1994) entitled, "Muslim persecution of Christians increasing" the author
blames many Muslims countries for persecuting Christians then he quotes the Qur'an, "There is
no compulsion in Religion" and ends the quote by rudely writing "Really?".

How to confront such misconceptions? First, there is no need for us to be apologetic. We
Muslims should search for the truth and present it as it is. This is how we have been
instructed by Allah (SWT) "Say: the truth from your Lord and let him who will believe and let
him who will reject."(18:29) Islam is the religion of the Truth. The Qur'an is the book of the
Truth. "We sent down the Qur'an in Truth and in Truth has it descended." (17:105) "Put your
trust in Allah for you are on the path of the manifest Truth."(27:79)

Therefore, we should ask ourselves first, before we are asked by anyone else, what is the
truth? Did Muslims really force others to convert to Islam? Is there any evidence for
consistent forcible...

Dumb Norwegian Erik Solheim best friend of Terrorist Killers

Author: Erickassonfire
Date: May 23, 2008 07:12

When the two delegations of the Government of Sri Lanka (GoSL) and the
LTTE arrived in Oslo for their latest round of talks Erik Solheim, the
Norwegian facilitator who had gone out on a limb to save the LTTE from
international pressures and opprobrium, had grand visions of being in
the smiling centre of the two parties shaking hands and informing the
media that the LTTE had agreed not to target Nordic Truce Monitors.
But the LTTE had other plans for him. Even before they left Sri Lanka
they had planned to scuttle the talks like all other talks which were
not going go their way.

If the talks got off to a new start the LTTE would have to face the
flak from all quarters, including Norway, and agree (at least
nominally) to adhere to the Ceasefire Agreement and guarantee security
for the Truce Monitors. But from the LTTE point of view there was
nothing to be gained at the talks that were going to restrain them.
Earlier, they refused to go to the Tokyo Conference of international
donors which had pledged $4.5 billion because the aid was tied to
guaranteeing human rights and democratising of the one-man regime in
the Vanni.

Norwegian Direct support to Terrorists to Murder children

Author: Erickassonfire
Date: May 23, 2008 07:10

Last weekend, two newspapers had a story about our Foreign Secretary
calling in the Norwegian Ambassador and in essence ticking him off.
The story became confused with diplomatic denials from the Foreign
Office itself.

A few days earlier a Foreign Office official had also told me how in
contrast to the US, the Norwegians were playing a pro LTTE line and
was continuously stepping on Sri Lanka's toes. I therefore tend to
believe the two weekend newspaper reports.

We further heard the other story that the obnoxious Solheim had
demanded explanations of why a supporter of the government, the JVP
wanted Norway out of the peace process. At least this time, the Sri
Lankan authorities had the courage to point out that Sri Lanka was a
multi-party democracy with different views - unlike one should add
Norway's favourite the LTTE controlled areas.

At least the Ugly American (the title of the 1958 book on interfering
Americans) and the British's White Man's Burden (the poem by British
imperialism's bard Rudyard Kipling) were about the colonial behaviour
of the supreme powers. Here however we have in Norway a piddling
Johnny-come-lately arrogating to itself imperial prerogatives.

Norwegian Government Bank Rolls Terrorist Killings

Author: sinna
Date: May 23, 2008 06:59

A Norwegian newspaper has disclosed that the Norwegian Ministry of
Foreign Affairs bankrolled the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE)
between 2002 and 2004, and continues to finance the group banned as a
terrorist organisation in India, the United States and Britain.

The report also quotes the Norwegian Foreign Ministry as saying that
it gave this money to the LTTE at the request of the Sri Lankan
Government.

Norway has been the facilitator of a peace process between the Sri
Lankan Government and the LTTE since 2000. The process has been stuck
since April 2003 when the Tigers refused to participate in peace talks
citing unmet promises by the Sri Lankan Government.

The Ny Tid (New Times) said in a report on November 26 that the
Ministry of Foreign Affairs gave 17.5 million Norwegian Kroner to the
LTTE between 2002 (the year it arranged a ceasefire in Sri Lanka) and
2004. The newspaper said the financial support to the LTTE is
continuing and would reach an estimated 25 million Kroner or $375,000
by the end of this year.

Norwegian back Killers Loosing the War

It does seem that the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) will
have to shrink their dreams of a Tamil homeland.

Elections to the Eastern Provincial Council last week saw Sri Lanka's
ruling coalition, the United People's Freedom Alliance (UPFA)
consolidate political control over the Eastern Province. The Eastern
Province is part of the LTTE's "Tamil homeland", the Tamil Eelam it is
fighting to create.

The LTTE's grip over swathes of land in the Eastern Province began
weakening in 2004, when its eastern commander "Colonel" Karuna left
the organization, taking the LTTE's eastern wing and
its resources with him. From 2006, Karuna has helped the Lankan army
score a series military victories in the east.

And in July last year, the army drove the LTTE out of the last of the
enclaves it controlled in the Eastern Province. For the first time in
almost two decades, the government was in control of the entire
province. That control has been taken further with the elections to
the Eastern Provincial Council.
