  Embarrassing question

Author: UKoncology
Date: Sep 21, 2008 04:42

I really ought to know the answers to these questions....
I wish to get a better low power lens for my Leitz 160mm tl stand
( Will a 10mm spacer between objective and stand improve the optical
performance of a 170mm objective in this configuration?

Are infinity corrected objectives interchangeable between infinity
corrected stands of different manufacturers?

Has anyone tried making a relay lens to fit in the optical path to
allow infinity corrected objectives to be used on 160/170mm stands?

Thanks, hj

Laser's power supply unit of Biorad confocal microscope is broken - information is needed

Author: adiraveh

Hi all,

Our confocal microscope’s power supply unit (biorad mrc-1024 confocal)
is out of order. It is an Ion Laser Technology (ILT) unit, model 5403B
(from July 1995).

We would like to ask if any of you might have the electricity circuit
scheme for this unit (or a similar one). It would be very helpful for
us for trying to figure out the problem there.

Trying to find the problem in our electronics laboratory, we’ve found
that the unit can’t operate and get power without being connected to
the other units (as it is connected when it works on our whole setup).

However, we don’t have the interlock plug for the interface connector
that might probably solve this. We wonder if anybody could please
direct us whether there's a way to jumper the connector/circuit such
that we could operate the power supply at electrician place, where it
stands alone, without bringing the other units that to his place.

Many thanks in advance,

Adi,

The Weizmann Institute of Science.

  Looking for compound Microscope

Hi all.
I am new at this forum so I think It would be needed a little
introduction of myself.

My name is Jose and I am Spanish. I studied Biology at university many
years ago, 12, but is not my profession. Despite all I am still
interested in all related with Biology so I want to spend my free time
studiying the small life that could be seen through a microscope. I
want to buy a compound microscope but I am not sure what to buy. I saw
several catalogs (Motic, Meade, Optika) and despite the look is quite
impressive I don't feel sure those scopes will have the mechanical and/
or optical quality I spect... and you know, I don't want to be
disapointed after spent a good sum of money. I should say that I want
to use the microscope for photomicrography (actualy I do
macrophotography) so I need one that deliver good image quality.

And now the most important... my budget. Righ now I could spend 1000
or 1500?, but in the future I could make other inversions to buy
accesories. What I am sure about is that I want a trinocular one
because...

  Books?

Author: polaskinator

Could anyone recommend some good books on microscopy?

I'm new to the field, and would like a good intro book. I'm an adult,
so not too basic. I'm doing this to satisfy my curiosity, so it's kind
of exploratory. Are there any good college undergrad text books that
you would recommend?

I have an older made in USA B&L Dynazoom, and I just bought a Olympus
BL4. I'm interested in biology. I'll be starting off with pond water
and the usual stuff.
