While I don't agree with a lot of the bailout, I think the priorities are
about right.

I wonder sometimes, though. Who are we bailing out, a bunch of sleezy
investors who knew damned well that the economy couldn't support all
those zillion houses they were building a few years ago? I know we
have to save the economy here, but Lord I feel like I just got royally
screwed by Lehman Brothers.

Only a hundred billion dollars off. I guess that's good math for
someone like you.

Your math error is almost 5 TIMES the total budget of NASA.

We have a problem of liquidity, not a problem of under-regulation.

Since we invaded Iraq and it was shown that Saddam Hussien did not
have WMDs the oil rich kingdoms have been quietly removing money from
the US banking and finance markets. Over the gulf war they have taken
over $18 trillion out of the US economy. No amount of government
bailout can replace that. Applying restrictive regulations will
guarantee that money will never return. Look for the US currency to
start to collapse in value - to about 1/4 its current value.

Since the 1970s we have imported gasoline from overseas and increasing
amounts of manufactured goods from overseas as well. It really
doesn't matter if Americans pay $4 for a gallon of gas and $12 for t-
shirts, and $5 for frozen fish sticks and the money goes to China, or
Arab Emirates or Chile. As long as the dollars come back into the US
banking system to support your mortgage, or your car loan or your
credit card debt. America has very little to offer the world except
the stability and profits earned in its financial markets.

The basic truth is that had there been no bail out the stock market
would have collapsed and so would the economy. Another basic truth is
that the banks should have beeen more prudent in their lending.

Well, yes. You didn't realize before now that saving tens
of millions of Americans from poverty and homelessness took
priority over building Really Cool Spaceships?
