Sure. People see unique events and try to relate them to what
they've seen before. No one had ever seen anything like the
deliberate plane crashes and consequent collapses of 9/11,
but we still try to relate thise to something, and building
implosion, while vastly different, is closer than anything
else in our experience. In the case of WTC 1 and 2, no one
can find a building implosion that looked anything like
that, but what else do we have with which to compare?

The truth is that no one knew what to expect. Unique events
have unexpected consequences. That's how the world works.

Actually, experts in implosion demolition don't think the WTC 1&2 collapses
look anything like an implosion demolition. See
