According to a federal agency report released Thursday, a "new
phenomenon" known as thermal expansion was directly responsible for
the mysterious collapse of World Trade Center 7 on Sept. 11, 2001.
This study, posed by the National Institute of Standards and
Technology -- a federal scientific agency which promotes technical
industrial standards -- marks the first 'official' government theory
on the collapse.
The building's demise occurred some seven hours after the twin towers
collapsed on Sept. 11, 2001, and has been the source of numerous
conspiracy theories key to the "9/11 Truth" movement, most of which
argue that the symmetrical, seven-second collapse was brought about by
a controlled demolition.
Dr. Shyam Sunder, director of Institute's building and fire research
laboratory, oversaw the government's three-year research efforts. The
report aims to disprove the controlled demolition argument.
However, Richard Gage, founder of Architects & Engineers for 9/11
Truth and a member of the American Institute of Architects, doesn't
believe a word of the theory.

Not to diminish the rest of the excellent points (snipped for space) its
a good idea to re-read the above paragraph when assessing the bona fides
of the NIST to perform this study at all: "scientific agency which
promotes technical industrial standards." The NIST was not created
*for* nor is it qualified *to* perform such studies. Considering the
Bush administrations history of politicizing government agencies one has
to be half past naive to give the NIST and its study any credibility
whatsoever. Maybe someday an employee of NIST will step forward and
expose this fraud for what it is.

When steel is heated it expands and weakens.
If you look at photos of untreated railway lines on a hot summer day
you will see how they are distorted and badly bent.
And that is in a temperature of 20-30C.
The NIST report says that the horizontal steel beams expanded and
broke their connections (bolts, welds, rivets) with the vertical
structure.
It would appear that the kooks need investigators to retain every
piece of a crime scene.
It ain't going to happen
