Expansion of the universe _is_ GR time dilation!

Author: Roland PJ
Date: Dec 31, 2007 23:55

A while back I explored the possibility of interpreting (Hubble) red-
shift as GR time-dilation related rather than simply SR Doppler:

http://groups.google.com/group/sci.physics/browse_thread/thread/4f5393a02fc7ab9a/048e5c108dea49fa...&

So, here's a report of a Physics Review paper, that takes the same
position, although not quite what I had in mind. The crux appears to
be (from the report, not from the paper which I haven't yet read),
that non-uniform distribution of mass in the univers contributes to
skewed local perception of the universe as a whole, as a result of GR
time dilation effects:

http://www.abc.net.au/science/articles/2007/12/21/2124258.htm?site=science&topic...

Choice quote:

"Galaxies do appear to be moving away from each other and at an ever
increasing rate, he says.

But he says this acceleration is apparent, and whether you see it or
not depends where in the universe you are taking measurements from, a
void or a galaxy."

That's kind-of what I was trying to explore.

Enjoy

A Principle Bigger than the Universe

Author: BURT
Date: Dec 31, 2007 14:54

The 4D hypersphere is bigger than the universe because the universe is
only its ever expanding surface. If you ask where the universe is the
answer is on the surface of an hypersphere.

Look and see where the universe is.

  Ugh, Another Frame Drag Question?

Author: Ken S. Tucker

Suppose we have a "geostationary satellite" denoted "S"
relatively to which the "spin" and "angular energy" of the
Earth is zero, that's SOP for geostationary sats.

Next we launch an "anti-geostationary satellite" denoted
S' ,moving in the opposite direction of S, but in the exact
same plane. Relatively to the anti-geo-sat, S' , the Earth
spins (rotates) beneath it at a rate of twice per day.

Question, will the Radius of the orbit of satellite S denoted
as R, be equal to the Radius of satellite S' denoted R' ?

Relatively to S', the Earth has "spin" and "angular energy",
and "angular energy" contributes to the mass-energy of
the body via E=mc^2, therefore the Earths Mass relative
to S' , denoted M', would be measured to be greater than
Earths Mass relative to S, denoted M, ie, M' > M.

That sort of thinking enters into the problem of "frame
dragging" that the Gravity Probe - b satellite is all balled
up on (pun intended).

  Bad at Math

Author: golfmyball
Date: Dec 31, 2007 09:11

I'm interested in relativity and have been a lurker here for some
years. Bought "Spacetime Physics" and tried to read and understand
it, but I am mathematically challenged. I cannot do the math at the
end of each chapter. The last math I took was high school algebra
(hated it) and only managed to pass because I sat next to a smart kid
and I cheated off him.

I've heard that relativity isn't much more that college math, is that
true?

I was a surveyor and taught myself Trigonometry but I just get nowhere
with relativity.

So, what I need is to start from scratch and study math. Could
someone give me a starting point and a progression of study. I do
not want to go to classes. I guess a beginner's course in algebra
might be a starting place but I don't know. What ever the starting
point might be I would appreciate telling me what it is and what
follows.

Thanks in advance

"The Creation of a Universe and the Gravity Transformations"

The Gravity Transformations provided at the Website and in many of
these postings lead to an interesting, and fully internally and externally
compatible, conclusion as to the way universes form. Consider the effects of
these transformations:

Force = 1
Length = 1/G*M1*M2/(R*C)^2
Time = G*M1*M2/(R*C)^2

These transformations show that an object contracts under the effects
of gravitation in terms of the units of measurement which exist at a
quasi-infinite radius and, as it does, the size of the...

The SETI Conspiracy: by Corey White (draft)

Author: CoreyWhite

The Astral Computer is a SETI experiment. The goal was to build a
global network of the best radio antennas. They use the technology to
spy on average americans with what is called by laypersons artificial
intelligence. To SETI scientists it is actually cosmic consciousness
tapped into through their electronic control grid. The police are
wired into SETI's radio network and follow orders from the machine
that governs the nations intelligence network. When SETI gives the go
ahead, even the president goes to war.

You can build your own SETI network at home, with the right tools.
I'm in the process of getting my radio operational. If you have ever
seen the movie white-noise, or contact, then you should understand.
Even right now SETI's radio antennas are broadcasting a signal into
our computers that uplink all of them into the same cosmic
consciousness. The circuits in our computers act as a key that opens
a lock to a specific radio channel on the SETI network.

The speed of light is neither constant nor variable

Author: Albertito

A photon is emitted from A to B, but if you measure that photon at an
intermediary point C, then that photon was emitted from A to C, not to
B.
This means there is no path for any photon, only two points, (i.e.
emission
and absorption points). Of course, you can argue that that
intermediary
point can retransmit that photon towards B, once it was absorbed.
A retransmitted photon is not the original photon, but a new one, and
it may exhibit either the same state or a different one, depending on
the
properties and state of system in C that absorbed the former. So, the
question is,
if there are no intermediary points between A and B which can absorb
and
retransmit that photon, what is the speed of that photon "travelling"
from A to B?.
The answer is a nonlocal and "instantaneous speed", it is saying,
once it is emitted,
it is instantaneous absorbed, so the "speed" is infinite!. ...
