Hi,
I learned recently that the "serving size" on food packaging
is not what nutritionists go by. I have a list of correct
serving sizes for many foods, but one that I don't have
is Miso soup. Is that 1 or 2 servings of vegetables?
Thanks.

over 50%% of the highly unstable fatty acid Omega-6 and should never be
used in cooking, frying or baking. Heating these oils causes oxidation
and produces large amounts of free radicals.

"This field is in sore need of a success story,"

Slowing mental ravages of Alzheimer's disease
Well-known drug may combat effects, researchers say
By Jeremy Manier | Chicago Tribune reporter

Editor's note: Due to a production error, this story from Wednesday's
newspaper did not run in full. This is the complete text.
Hope is often scarce in research on Alzheimer's disease, but a study
released Tuesday at a Chicago medical conference offered tentative
hope for a new way of slowing elderly patients' mental decline.
The preliminary study of 321 Alzheimer's patients from Singapore and
Britain found that an old drug, previously used for urinary tract
infections and other ailments, reduced the patients' rate of mental
loss by 81 percent, based on a standard measure of cognitive
performance and memory.
The results require further confirmation, but whatever the outcome,
some experts are intrigued by the drug's novel way of attacking the
disease.

Diabetes linked to male infertility; excess sugars in the body have
direct effect on sperm quality
Diabetes in men has a direct effect on fertility, a scientist told the
24th annual conference of the European Society of Human Reproduction
and Embryology today (Wednesday 9 July). Dr. Con Mallidis from Queen's
University, Belfast, UK, said that, despite the prevailing view that
it had little effect on male reproductive function, the Belfast group
had shown that diabetes caused DNA damage in sperm.
The increase in the numbers of diabetics diagnosed at a young age has
coincided with worldwide concerns over male fertility, he told the
conference. "But this is not simply a coincidence," he said. "We have
shown for the first time that diabetes adversely influences male
fertility at a molecular level."
