The Future of High-Efficacy Incandescent Lamps

Author: TKM
Date: Dec 26, 2008 12:22

Some weeks back there was a discussion here about the technology of
high-efficacy incandescent lamps. I've looked at the (very few) research
papers on the subject and it appears that any such lamps would have to be
built with multiple technologies such as halogen, infrared reflecting films
and highly-processed filament materials. That sounds expensive and
difficult plus the benefits would be relatively small -- perhaps getting the
lamps into the 30-40 lpw range compared to CFLs at 80 lpw and
commercially-available white-light LEDs now about 40 lpw and rising.

So, it wasn't surprising that GE recently announed that it was not going to
pursue new incandescent lamp technology. Will anyone else do you suppose?

7 reasons to read the Glorious Qur'an

Author: truthway21
Date: Dec 24, 2008 09:17

What you are about to read might sound unusual but it could be very
enlightened.

(1) Intimate:

It dares you to disprove it. How? It says that humans can not write a
book like this even if they pooled all their resources together and
got help also from the spirits. The Qur’an said this fourteen hundreds
years ago and yet no one has been able to disprove it. Billions of
books have been written - but not another one like the Qur’an.

(2) Incorruptible:

It is the only religious sacred writing which has been in circulation
for such a long time and yet remains as pure as it was in the
beginning. The Qur’an was kept intact. Nothing was added to it;
nothing was changed in it; and nothing was taken away from it ever
since it was completely revealed 1400 years ago.

(3) Unsurpassable:

The Qur’an is God’s final revelation to humankind. God revealed the
Torah to Moses, the Psalms to David, the Gospel to Jesus, and finally
the Qur’an to Muhammad. Peace be upon all of them. No other book will
come from God to surpass his final revelation.

Blue LED with no emission beyond 480 nm

Author: Steve
Date: Sep 12, 2008 11:08

I'm looking for an LED with no emission beyond (longer than) 480 nm.
It's best if it was eye-safe so as little UV emission as possible is
desired (> 400 nm ?). The few blue led's I've come across with peak
or dominant wavelengths of 430 nm have very wide spectra extending
beyond 480 nm.

  UV lamps

Author: Mikhail Vitalievich

Hello,

Could somebody help me to find datasheets regarding decay of UV-C
output of low-pressure desinfecting mercury UV-C lamps with burning
time?
Now I conduct an experimental investigation of induction UV-C lamp and
would like to compare my experimental results with the known
characteristics of "usual" UV lamps but find nothing....

will be thankful

Best regards,
Mikhail

White LED with emission at 400 nm

Author: Steve

Is there a white led that emits down to 400 nm ? The one's I see have
a peak in the blue near 450 nm with a sharp fall off down to 420 or
430 nm. I'd like to use one for absorption spectroscopy down to 400
nm.

Is this due to concerns with UV emission or lack of phosphors most
efficiently excitable by 400 nm ?
