Welding galvanised steel tube / weldmesh?

Author: Chris Wilson
Date: Mar 30, 2008 15:19

I need to alter some dog kennel panels. They are 1 inch square box section
of about 20 gauge wall thickness forming 6 foot squares, in filled with 10
gauge 2 inch square weldmaesh panels. The ends of the weldmesh wires are
welded to the frame. The assemblies were obviously commercially made, and
hot dip galvanized after manufacture. I need to shorten some panels, and
repair a break in the corner of another, where the square box section is
butt joined. i have gas, MIG and TIG available. What is the best way of
attempting this, due to the thinness of the tube and the awkwardness of so
many wire ends of the mesh grinding off the galvanizing would be very
difficult. Would gas brazing work? Any acids that would remove the
galvanizing locally? Other ideas? Thanks.

Or Google Rodenator fire.

A true "AW, shit!" moment.

Got mine all done. Put a stun gun on it for igniter power. Am waiting for
the gophers to come out in my area to try it.

I'll be sure to stay away from dry grass.

Teach me to "killfile" spammers and such

I've never had the need before to "killfile" someone so I've never learned.
Can someone explain the process to me (and save me some lurn'n time so I can
do more welding... ;-))

Much appreciated.

  Checking welding current

Author: SteveB

I'm picking up the radiator for the SA 200 Monday, and will be painting and
reassembling according to the wind speed over the next couple of weeks.
When I get the old gal running, I'd like to do a check on the output through
the leads.

Would I do this with a helper and an amp clamp? Set it up to weld, and then
weld with a helper watching an amp clamp on the lead? Is there another type
of tester I should use just on the main lugs off the machine? I'm just
trying to see if the output is good, and is within the range of the controls
indicate. I will be using 50' leads of #1 cable on each leg. I will be
using 7018 1/8" rod in the flat position, and making a dime size pool, and
trying to burn thirty seconds per setting. Stinger positive.

Does this sound like a plausible idea? Other suggestions, caveats, tips,
procedures or whatever appreciated.

Thanks.

Steve

OK... (thanks for the welder advice) now on to some application
questions; for patching car body rust, why is welding the attachment
fashion of choice? Rather than brazing, or even soldering? (there's
actually some body lead in the back of this garage...) i'm not talking
about serious structural work, just little rust holes that half the
world patches with fiberglass. my concerns are regarding the heat
warping the metal, as well as the propensity of welded metal to rust
more. (full disclosure... last time I did anything of the kind, it
involved bicycle frames long ago when they were brazed to avoid
warping and such, rather than tig welded like now)

  FS Coolmate 4

Anyone have use for a Coolmate 4 (blue) it's used and paid it's dues but in
fine working order. I rebuilt the pump (Carbonator) out of preventative
maint. and it's just in the way. Located in Chicago or Joliet. $300.00 No
lugs, just the in/out reverse thread on the inlet side. Adapters will be
needed. My new unit has one built in and this needs a good happy home.
120vac 60hz
I have some Diamondback torches available for it too, new in the box but
I don't have a price on them yet.

stick welding machines - possible same Amps but different weld performance?

Author: Richard Smith

Hi everyone

Is it possible for two welding machine to be set to give the same amps
with the same consumables on the same claimed polarity and yet get
different welding outcomes - one "a good welder" happily fusing into
the joint and the other "giving poor welding performance" with mean
and unwilling fusion?

Reason for asking is, sure I much prefer using my Miller compared to
the college's Murex (a UK brand) machines.

2.5dia rod
6013 (yeah, "why do you have this fixation with 6013's over there?" - but that's the way it is)
75A
DCEP

vert-up T-fillet on 6mm plate
(2 reasons - (1) machine I have to use tomorrow can't manage bigger
rods running from the generator (2) the college specifies 2.5dia
6013's on 6mm plate for test spec.))
