  wire color marking

Author: phil-news-nospam
Date: Sep 10, 2008 15:14

What would be unsafe about the following:

NM or MC cable normally used for a 208Y/120 three phase circuit, consisting of
a ground wire, and conductors insulated in white, black, red, and blue colors,
used on a 120/240 volt system, on a split-circuit that traditionally shares a
neutral, having in this case a split neutral, where the blue wire is marked as
white using permanent white tape over several inches of the wire at each end.
One 120 volt outlet is connected to the white wire and black wire. The other
120 volt outlet is connected to the blue wire marked white and the red wire
(the red wire to the hot screw).

Note that NEC 200.6(A) does not permit the above. My question is not about
what is or is not permitted. It is about what is, or is not, safe, and why.

  NEC 210.52(B)(1)

Author: phil-news-nospam

NEC 210.52(B)(1) seems to say that every countertop outlet must be one of the
2 or more required 20 amp circuits. So would this preclude installing a 30
amp dedicated circuit with a NEMA 5-30R or 6-30R outlet?

Anyone know what the DC rating is when only AC is given

Author: rhofer

Hello eveyone,

I was once told that a device rated for say 600vac would have an
equivalent
rating of twice the peak - peak for dc or in this example a 1697 V.

Does anyone know if this is true. It is particularly important for me
because I have been looking for a 1000VDC 40A screw terminal block and
have
only been able to find 600vac 40A types.

Thanks
