Here's another appalling aspect of the immoral biofuel business. I
call it "immoral" because it is a sin to starve people in order to
feed cars and trucks.

Demands for crackdown on biofuels scam - US 'splash and dash' loophole
undermines climate change fight
Terry Macalister - The Guardian, Tuesday
The EU is being urged to take action to stop a biofuel trading scam
that exploits US agricultural subsidies and undermines the fight
against global warming.
Up to 10%% of biofuel exports from the US to Europe are believed to be
part of the rogue scheme reaping big profits for agricultural trading
firms.
The "splash and dash" scam involves shipping biodiesel from Europe to
the US where a dash of fuel is added, allowing traders to claim 11p a
litre of US subsidy for the entire cargo. It is then shipped back and
sold below domestic prices, undercutting Europe's biofuel industry.

On the Brink
http://money.cnn.com/2008/03/28/news/economy/disaster_sloan.fortune/index2.htm
How you'll pay
Still with me? Good. Now let me show you how we taxpayers are picking
up the tab for much of this rescue mission to the markets - even
though Uncle Sam isn't sending checks to Wall Street. Here's the math.
Say the Fed extends $500 billion of emergency loans to firms in need
of short-term money. They're paying around 2.5%% interest to Uncle Ben
(or Uncle Sam, if you prefer). That rate is way below what they'd pay
to borrow in the open market, if they could borrow. The difference
between the open-market price and 2.5%% is a gift from us, the
taxpayers.
I think that's better than letting the world financial system collapse
- but it's a serious subsidy to outfits that made a lot of money on
the way up and that are now whining about losses. You gotta love it -
private profits, socialized losses.

The First Fifteen Minutes of September 11th
Former Air Traffic Controller Robin Hordon speaks out
on 9/11, NORAD and what should have happened on 9/11.
By Jeremy Baker
Within three hours of the attacks on the World Trade Center and
Pentagon, Robin Hordon knew it was an inside job. He had been an Air
Traffic Controller (ATC) for eleven years before Reagan fired him and
hundreds of his colleagues after they went on strike in the eighties.
Having handled in-flight emergencies and two actual hijackings in his
career, he is well qualified to comment on what NORAD should have been
able to achieve in its response to the near simultaneous hijacking of
four domestic passenger carriers on the morning of September 11th,
2001.
