Taxes add a significant amount to the price of motor fuel and vary
widely by area.
For the first quarter of 2008, the average us state fuel tax is 28.6
cents per gallon, plus 18.4 cents per gallon federal tax making the
total 47 cents per gallon. For diesel, the average state tax is 29.2
cents per gallon plus an additional 24.4 cents per gallon federal tax
making the total 53.6 cents per gallon.
In the Uk, if a litre of fuel is 85p, 21.7p will be for production
costs and profit, around 51p would be duty tax and 12.5p will be VAT
on top of that
I have wrote down many ways to help save money on your fuel in my
blog ;
