Microsoft warns on Vista update
Microsoft is warning Windows Vista users that a forthcoming service pack
for the operating system may stop some third-party programs working.
The software giant has released a list of programs that may be broken by
the SP1 update for Vista.
Most of the software hit by the upgrade are security programs that
prevent Windows users falling prey to viruses, trojans and booby-trapped
webpages.
The Windows Vista update will be released to the public in mid-March

quite the opposite. if they were idiots, they'd stop their own
programs from working, while third party programs continue to work.

I'm not surprised... when Vista first came out a year ago, Microsoft had said
that they'd be shutting down some of the techniques used to "hook" various
parts of the operating system. Ostensibly this was to make the OS more secure
from viruses or similar malware, but you might recall at the time that various
anti-virus software vendors protested loudly since they use many of the same
techniques to watch for virus-like activity.
Some anti-virus vendors chose to update their products whereas others didn't,
it would seem.
Other than "Fujitsu Shock Sensor" all of the programs on the list are either
anti-virus type programs or DRM type programs (that behave very much like
viruses as well...).
My gut feeling is that a little more than one year after its release, Vista
hasn't obtained the market penetration that XP had in a similar timeframe.
But maybe I'm just remembernig history through rose-colored glasses...

Lemme guess.. hmmmm... traversing their bureaucracy is a waste of time. :-)
Voting MS-XP or BSD//Linux is way more resource efficient.
