Does this argument make sense? (cause a friend of mine seems not to think
so)
The fact that kids who's parents that "live" on welfare also end up "living"
on welfare verses the kids who's parents do not live on welfare prove that
welfare does not work in getting people off welfare.
Hence welfare does not work unless the goal is to keep them on welfare. So
in fact the best way to make people successful is not to put them on
welfare.
This argument seems perfectly logical... anyone think it's not? Back up by
logical proof and facts.

>Can anyone point me at a sensible and responsive lab in the UK

>approvals of domestic electronic equipment to be used in the U.S?
For UK based UL certification I suggest you contact the UL office near
Manchester, I worked with them a bit in my last job. I don't have their
details any more but the UL Guildford office should be able to put you
in touch with them. I say the Manchester office because that's where
they're actually setting up a test lab, if they can ever get the staff
and train them up. Guildford is just a "customer service" place (sales
monkeys and "account managers" on phones whom we refused to talk to, not
engineers).
The big problem then was resource shortages (delays) at the Manchester
office, which was only set up 2 years? ago but they may be able to point
you at 3rd parties whom they consider accredited. Don't hold your
breath, UL don't practise the concept of reciprocity - other agencies
should accept their certificates but their auditors won't let them
accept other agencies' !

Gents,
Using MS-Works for databases and most spreadsheets. Mostly database
though and there I always run the automatic feature "Backup the previous
version when saving". Long story short a new PC came with a license of
the newest MS-Works, version 8.5. Can't find the backup feature. Arrgh!
Did they take it out? If so is there anyone at MS whom I could toss into
the dunk tank for that decision?
Is it legal to copy one instance of an older version from another PC
over the new one? IOW if you have 3 old-version licenses and one new,
can you legally chuck the new one and provide yourself with 4
old-versions instead? The old one can't be purchased anymore.

Hi All, This is my first time posting though I’ve read some of the
discussions. I’ve been having problems with some of the Weinbridge
oscillators that are in our lockin amplifiers. I won’t bore you with
details, but a circuit that was working for years now seems to be
having problems. I used a light bulb as the gain control element.
But I’ve now decided to try moving into the 20th century and use a
JFET as the control element. The circuit I’m modifying comes from J.
Williams at Linear (AN-47). My problem is finding a replacement JFET
for the 2N4338. Ohh I can still find these on the web, but for $4.30
each!!! I found both the PN4119 and J201 as possible replacements and
was looking for any other suggestions. The important parameter is the
on resistance of the FET which should be in...

So here I am, needing more than the usual 32V opamp. Chose ye olde
MC33174 because it can take 44V but was surprised when I read that the
usual SO14 package is only rated at 154C/W. Since I am burning 500mW
that would become too toasty, ouch. Or I'll have to idle two amps each
in there and double the number of chips.
So, is 500mW in a SO14 really too much? What do thee say?
