  Analog out with High Power?

Author: RogerN

I'm wanting to do some battery charger development work and would like to
power from 12V battery (12-16V Supply) and charge batteries from 1.2V to
~30V or so. Anyone know of a circuit that will take an analog output and
give ~0-30V out at up to ~3A-5A from a 13.8V supply?

I've been looking at SEPIC regulator circuits and they all seem to be made
for a range of input voltage with a fixed output voltage. I need something
like SEPIC that will give a variable output voltage that can be controlled
from an analog signal. I want to use switching regulators because it would
be too inefficient to use 5A at 30V to charge a single cell at 5A at 1.2V
(and using perhaps 15A from the 12V supply). I plan to use analog inputs
for voltage and current to control and terminate the charge.

I know there are many chargers out their already that do this, and it's not
the charge circuit that I'm trying to re-invent, but I want to do things in
the software that isn't currently done on any charger that I know of. Such
as leaving multiple li-po packs in storage charge and then charging the
packs to be fully charged by a certain date and time. Also data logging for
each pack so the user can see when a pack is deteriorating...etc.

Thanks!

  Digital audio off vinyl?

After looking at articles about data cassettes and the Kansas City
standard I heard the Apple I BASIC tapedump on BoingBoing. Does anyone
know if it would be possible to transfer digital audio files to a 12
inch 33.3 RPM record or cassette? Quality is of minimal importance, I
just need to know how to do this and how to successfully retrieve the
data.

need help on this LED current driver circuits

schematics:

this LED current driver comes from LM3433 by NSC. I am new to the
power electronics. I made a same circuits as this evaluation board
(NSC application notes AN-1736), my circuits failed after 20 mins
without any signs. I used a hot air gun (~700 F) to solder this QFN
and I wonder I damaged this part. Is it possible?

1. The Mosfet got hot but the waveform was clean, the edge is ~100 ns
and it must be fully-on or off. Why it failed without any sign? The
waveform at Q1 and Q2 "S" likes this:
_________ __ ___________ this is not a single toggle up and down
switching signal?
|_| |_|

2.How does the current flow in sync. mosfets? It looks the load is
different from conventional sync. buck converter.

3. Why the designer put so many bead and capacitors in parallel? to
minimize the ESR and suppress the ringing from switching?

4. D3 is to protect the LED from the reversed voltage from the main
inductor?
