Since this is the coldest, wettest, nastiest winter on record, I'd say
that we've got global warming solved and we should put pope AL out to
pasture.

  Spectrum analyzer blind spots

Author: Charles Lind
Date: Dec 26, 2008 13:57

Assuming a 30 GHz bandwidth, what categories of ambient broadcast
signals would one be _unable_ to accurately analyze on a good quality
spectrum analyzer?

For example, I have heard frequency analysis of spread spectrum and
FHSS is not possible with standard SA's, and that current models are
designed not to display certain frequencies used by the government.

For experimental reasonsI would prefer not to have anything excluded.
Are work-arounds for these "missing" capabilities?

I have never met anyone who wants that blasted sidebar.

Cindy once remarked to her dentist that she didn't know what would be worse - having a baby, or having a tooth pulled.
The Dentist replied, "Well make up your mind, Cindy - because I need to know which way to position the chair."

Baxendall Class-D oscillator with a big source inductor

Author: Bill Sloman
Date: Dec 26, 2008 10:58

All the years that I've been fooling around with the Baxendall class-D
oscillator, I've believed the original paper, which said that if you made
the source inductor much bigger than the centre-tapped inductor in the
resonant tank, the circuit will "squeg", rather than settling down to
producing a nice steady sine wave. It certainly did when I wound inductors
that had something of the order of four or five times the inductance of the
inductor in the tank circuit.

Recently, I was wondering if fooling around with the mark-to-space ratio
might allow me to tame the squegging, so I dug out my old Spice model, and
replaced the 1mH source capacitor with the biggest Toko 8RB choke I could
find in a distributors catalogue - 33mH, 80R 8.5pF of parallel capacitance
(its self-resonant frequency is 300kHz).

Will there be TARP funding available to keep the nation looking pretty even
though we have to eat gruel?

Well - Why would the people on the flight care?

Well, I took your advice and ordered the MSO2012 - I assumed that the extra
two channels in the MSO2024 will mosly be used for logic anyway and the 2012
has 16 logical channels to play with as well.
