NASA tries to wrap fire with paper: No lighting can whiten Mars Lander
Phoenix’s “fallen spring coil” while blackening the surrounding
Martian soil

Some people (possibly related to NASA) claimed that different lighting
conditions rendered black the spring coil on the deck of Phoenix (see
Figure 1 below) but whitened the “spring coil” (see Figure 2) which
NASA claimed had fallen from Phoenix. Figure 2 below shows “black
Martian soil” surrounding the “whitened spring coil”. So, the white
color of the “spring coil” could not be due to the lighting effect.
