HTML docs for SkyGlobe for DOS

Author: SkySea
Date: Sep 9, 2008 22:47

Don't ask me why, but I was compelled to format all of the text files
associated with SkyGlobe 3.6 for DOS into HTML. The full manual has
links from a Table of Contents, and all the docs are in one file so
you can peruse all of it at once. A standalone version of the manual
is a separate file as well.

And I've created an icon for Windoze users.

You can get it all in one 55kB zip file here:

Hope it's useful, fun, whatever.

10 inch solid tube or 12 inch truss

Author: brucegooglegroups

I am thinking of either buying a 10 inch solid tube Dob or a 12 inch
truss. I understand the portability factor with the 12 inch, but I am
a bit wary of the collimating it. I have used a 10 inch solid tube and
it is easy to collimate.
What about collimating a truss scope such as a Lightbridge?

Also, what would be the height of optical tube with the primary mirror
cell in a 12 inch truss?

I hope that I am not annoying you with my article , but I believe that
it is worth reading

Sexual Politics

Imagine this scenario, for it is real: two antagonists locked in a
grim power struggle. And another: two or more other competitors,
rivals in a race for high stakes, a race to determine the course of

Re: QUR'ANIC VERSES WITH IMPORTANT GEOLOGICAL CONNOTATIONS

Author: Chris.B

What possible interest does geology have to people who have had their
heads buried in the sand for several millennia? What interest is a
work of complete fiction on geology to amateur astronomers? Isn't it
true that you are only posting here to get the attention of Western
Muslims so you can radicalise them?

Prophets are lucky guessers remembered only for their most successful
guesses. Arthur C Clarke was a remarkable modern prophet but we don't
worship him. We certainly don't kill and maim people who don't believe
every word he is ever supposed to have uttered. Perhaps we will
by ..er... 3308AD when his thoughts have been corrupted so many times
that any interpretation can be put on them. By literally anybody
desperate for a cause. Any cause as long as they can wield their
little bit of power over others. If the Muslim countries were free and
tolerant then Islam would now be a fading memory.

The death of open access unmoderated astro groups? – part 2

Author: ukastronomy
Date: Sep 9, 2008 00:59

There is obviously some interest in knowing about the alternatives
that exist but, rather curiously, some people regard posting details,
even once a week, as spamming the newsgroup!
http://www.martin-nicholson.info/alternatives/alternatives.htm

Other people regard the lack of censorship as a plus. I don’t want
censorship either but the fact remains that the vast majority of the
material appearing in moderated astronomical groups is not cross
posted to sci.astro.amateur. I suspect that few active amateur
astronomers currently read this group – perhaps put off by the crank
posters?

Yes of course filtering is possible. But again I have to say I cannot
recall any example of sci.astro.amateur being the first, or only,
place where I saw astronomical material of interest. In other words,
even after filtering, how much of significance remains?

I did try posting astronomical material everyday. I think I did so for
a couple of months. I got lots of hits but also enough complaints from
people to make me query if it was a worthwhile exercise.
