When Does a Mirror Need Recoating?

Author: Jar-Jar Binks
Date: Dec 31, 2007 16:19

I have been a refractor guy for most of my life and therefore the reason for
the dumb question:

How often does a mirror in a Newtonian Telescope need to be recoated? I have
had the telescope since 2001 and it has a Zambuto Mirror. How much does
recoating cost and how much time is required? Do I need to send the mirror
back to Zambuto?

Thanks and Happy New Year,

Jar-Jar

2008: Temperature Vernal, War, Hellfire, Christians Rejoice!

The horoscope for midnight Mars' Day 1 January 2008 A.D. looks
portentious, with Venus fallen in the first house under Lilith,
and Uranus is fallen in the fifth house (even Pluton is fallen
in Riches, acquiring opposition to Mars ruling in the Scorpion,
the superior Emperor and Sun there for the receding Hierophant).

This is particularly auspicious given the world has entered her
final, five-year countdown at the winter solstice Natalis Solis
Invicti (Io Saturnalia!) on Saturn's Day December 22, 2007 anno
Domini 06:07:39 UT. So be of good cheer, Christians: the harlot
of Babylon's fiery Judgment approaches...Atheists shall die and
their lamentable souls shall burn in Hell into Ages of the Ages.

The most extreme form of Godlessness is in fact Atheism, not Satanism.

Satanism is worship of the Angel of Father Time, the mighty Titan King
who rules the World. Satan is the Scythe-bearer, the Grim Reaper, who
reaps the harvest of the earth. In that sense, I, too...

Space Weather News for Dec. 31, 2007

SOLAR ACTIVITY: The New Year could begin with a bang--or rather a solar flare. A sunspot hidden just behind the sun's
eastern limb has unleashed two X-ray flares and a bright CME (coronal mass ejection) in the past 24 hours. This
activity could signal the return of large sunspot 978, which has spent the last two weeks transiting the far side of the
sun. Today or tomorrow, the sun's rotation should carry the active region over the limb and into view from Earth; then
we can evaluate its potential for more flares and CMEs. Visit http://spaceweather.com for images and updates.

HEAVENLY MEETING: Last night, emerald Comet 8P/Tuttle glided by spiral galaxy M33 producing a heavenly scene for
astrophotographers around the world. Dozens of photos may be found in Spaceweather's Comet Tuttle gallery:

ASTRO - Our nearest neighbours - 61 CYG

Our nearest neighbours - 61 CYG

61 CYG, sometimes called Bessel's Star - Currently in 14th place

This is a binary system made up of a K5 and a K7 star at a distance of
11.36 light years. The long period variable v471 Cyg is noteworthy
becuase it is so much redder in IR than in G light. This is almost
always the case with variable stars of this type and is perhaps a
possible method for detecting previously uncatalogued examples.
