Sacrificed Women and Fetus found at a Lambayeque Site in Perusci

Author: michaelruggeri
Date: Sep 11, 2008 05:37

Listeros,

(Here is an English translation of the story from El Comercio that
was
posted by another listero the other day.)

Archaeologists have found the jawbone of a fetus among the remains of
a sacrificed woman from the Lambayeque culture proving the Lambayeque
sacrificed pregnant women and their children. The remains were found
with 3 other sacrificed women and sacrificed llamas.

7 women were found in two tombs at the Chotuna Chornancap site which
lasted from 800-1350 AD. All the women had signs of having their
throats cut. It is believed they were sacrificed to honor the
reconstruction of a new temple at the site or to honor the death of
an
important personage.

In a separate dig, 8 tombs containing 21 bodies were found at
Sacsayhuaman in Cuzco. They were probably sacrificed servants.

  Ancient Mesoamerican Dental Practices

Author: http://groups.google.com
Date: Sep 6, 2008 02:28

Listeros,

At the 10th International Congress on Health and Disease organized by
INAH in Mexico City, dental specialist Socorro Ochoa Caceres stated
that ancient Mesoamerican dentists knew about and used dental filling
to avoid tooth loss. They knew how to insert files between teeth to
fasten orthodontic devices. Jadeite, obsidian, flint, wood and vegetal
fibers were used to modify and decorate teeth.

  Termination Ceremony at Kabah

Author: Approved:
Date: Sep 5, 2008 16:41

Listeros,

Lourdes Toscano Hernandez has been working at Kabah for INAH and has
found evidence of a termination ceremony there in Rooms 13 and 14
which consists of tearing apart door elements and evidence of burnt
soil has also been found. This kind of evidence of termination
rituals
has also been found at other Puuc cities such as Uxmal and Sayil.
Kabah came to an end in 1000 CE and had been occupied since 300 BCE.
The Maya elite may have carried these ceremonies out in preparation
for abandonment.

  Many Artifacts Excavated at Cahuachi

Author: michaelruggeri
Date: Sep 5, 2008 05:15

Listeros,

A team led by Giuseppe Orefici has been excavating at the Cahuachi
site in desert Peru, 28 miles from the city of Nazca. They have found
many artifacts including engraved gourds, textiles, ceramics and a
sacrificed child. Cahuachi covers 24 square kilometers that contains
huge pyramids, temples and platforms that have been excavated by the
same team. It was at Cahuachi that the Nazca culture developed and
the
line builders may have lived at Cahuachi. The Nazca lines resemble
the
iconography on the Cahuachi artifacts. Many Nazca lines point towards
Cahuachi.

UPDATE ON THE OLDEST HUMAN IN THE AMERICAS

Author: Mike R
Date: Sep 4, 2008 16:44

Listeros,

National Geographic has a follow up story on the oldest human ever
found in the Americas dubbed Eve of Naharon near Tulum. The skeleton
has been dated at 11,600 BCE and it was found with 3 others. Once
again, chief archaeologist Arturo Gonzalez stated that the skulls
hint that these people came from South Asia and not North Asia. The
other 3 skeletons are between 9000-12,000 BCE.

One problem with radio-carbon dates of organic materials that have
been in sea water, as these skeletons have been, is that minerals in
the sea water can alter the dating results. Arturo Gonzalez will begin
extracting a 4th skeleton known as Chan hol which could be older than
Eve this month. Publication of the research will be done after the 4th
skeleton is excavated.

It is hoped they may have some information on how these ancient people
arrived when they are done with their research.
