The food riots that are circumnavigating the globe could become almost
as death-dealing as your Nincompoop-In-Chief's two FAILED wars.
But we don't hear a peep from your White House war criminal that his
failed plot to "cure America's addiction to oil" should be revised way
downward -- or better -- discontinued and replaced by workable
solutions.
No, the worst "president" in U.S. history doesn't admit mistakes. And
there's good reason. He'd spend most of his time admitting his
mistakes!
Mr. Sloan reminds us that there WERE other alternatives, roads not
taken.

The per usual republicrat farm socialism has created food supply
chaos, subsidized corn for ethanol fuel has crowded out other food
crops, speculators abroad have taken their bales of dollarpesos and
bought out our wheat supplies so that we'll have to re-import at a
higher price. Gov't. has paid southeast Texas farmers to raise
livestock instead of rice, now Sam's Club and Costco are rationing it.
So I tossed the ornamental plants and have planted corn, beans,
peppers, and tomatoes, maybe carrots next. I recommend others do the
same this season in their backyards if they have them. I don't think
there will be acute food shortages this year in the USA, but grocery
prices are high and getting higher. It will also save the fossile fuel
to get it from the farm to your table. I would raise meat...

What will the biofuel death count be?
Biofuel production will contribute to the early, avoidable deaths of
at least between 10 and 20 million people worldwide in the year 2008.
That is my public estimate of the death toll, and is in a way a cop-
out on my part, as the 2007 global death toll due to malnutrition and
malnutrition related illness was in the 14 to 16 million range. I did
not want to stick my neck out and be accused of inflating the numbers
to support my opposition to biofuels. Privately, I fear the death
toll for 2008 will be much higher, as food prices have skyrocketed far
beyond 2007 levels. I really believe that in 2008 global deaths due
to malnutrition and related illness will be in the 20 to 30 million
range. Economists estimate that 30 million people could be going
hungry in Bangladesh alone.

Dream Island Days by R M Lockley,dustwrapper a bit chipped,small ink
mark on inside front board, otherwise VGC. 144 pages.
Superb story of Mr Lockleys years reviving a small derelict farm on
remote the uninhabited Welsh Island of Skokholm in the pre war
years, where he takes his new wife(and later two small children!) to
live and successfully farms under the most trying of circumstances.
