Sometime ago (Dec 7, 2007) there was a discussion in this group about
manure, and as a sideline the topic of nitrogen fixating bacteriae came
up. It was said that it would be unprobable that the nitrogen would be
fixed in the compost, because "Main N-fixers are cyanobacteria and
legumes. Both rely on sunlight."

Now I've been reading a little bit about it, and the name of two nitrogen
fixating bacteriae came up, who can be mixed either with the seeds at the
time of germination, incorporated in the soil directly, or mixed through
the compost in the last stage of maturing.
The names of those bacteriae are Rhizobium and Azotobacter. They don't
really seem to be needing direct sunlight.

Perhaps clover is the leaf that has the closest to being a "circle" or
perhaps it is the darkness of its green leaf with a splotch of white
that makes it pretty. ...What I like to know is how to make the field

In The Philippines I stumbled upon a technique, introduced by a company
that started leasing 400 hectares from local farmers to grow rice on it.
They say that because the soil has become very acidic due to the abundant
use of chemical fertilisers in the past, it needs de-acidification first.
How do they do it, agricultural lime? No, that costs about US$200 / ha in
purchasing it alone.
What they say is that culturing lactobacillus in water and mixing it with
carbonised rice hull, that will do the trick at a fraction of the costs.
Is there anybody in this group that could confirm that it really works
that way?

My 5 year old daughter and I recently started eating strictly
organic. I have been very surprised at how few people even realize
what organic means. And even worse, I've heard so many people say "I
got it at Whole Food" so it must be organic.....unfortunately they
sell conventional food as well. So I've been dealing with all the
controversy and discussion about whether or not it's really "organic"
and who is doing the certification and who to trust, etc. And I am
spending tons more on food than I was before, however, I've determined
based on how I feel and the people I see on the same path, that this
is the way to go. I am constantly seeking information and
interviewing farmers. My partner and I are working on some great
projects to educate and spread the word about living a healthy...
