In the framework of the Focus Program "Phasenumwandlungen in
mehrkomponentigen Schmelzen", the German Science Foundation (DFG)
is funding the project "REXOS", carried out as a joint venture
between the Institut für Materialphysik im Weltraum,
German Aerospace Center (
http://www.dlr.de/mp) (DLR),
Cologne, and the Gesellschaft für Technische Thermochemie und
-physik mbH (
http://www.gtt-technologies.de/) (GTT), Herzogenrath.
This project deals with computer-assisted calculations of the
surface tension of liquid metallic alloys, specifically
Fe-Ni-Cr-based steels. Experimental measurements for the support
and verification of the calculated data will be carried out at
DLR, while GTT is responsible for the algorithm, based on the
Butler equation and on previous work, and the implementation of
both, the database and the user interface.
The program to be developed shall be used as a stand-alone tool,
or as a plug-in for materials processing simulations. It will
provide cutting edge technology and will improve precision and
reliability of current simulation tools.
For this project, we seek a young professional with background in
materials science, chemistry or engineering, and experience in
programming in FORTRAN, DELPHI or C++.
The position is presently vacant for 18 months. An extension of
the project is envisaged.
The successful applicant will be employed by DLR. The work will
be performed at GTT, who offer the full suite of soft- and
hardware environment, as well as the necessary personal support.
