Congratulations to fellow Martha's Vineyard windsurfer and kiter, Rob
Douglas, on setting the new outright sailing speed record on his kite,
49.84 knots. Rob is a great guy and someone who's only recently
gotten into kiting. With the help of Mike Gebhart, Rob broke the US
record last month in his first speed event, betting the record
previously held by Robby Naish. In what I think is only his second
formal speed event, Rob inches ever closer to 50 knots outright.
Rob has trained with a single-minded commitment for this record.
Congratulations Rob and Gebi!!
-Dan

Recently I acquired two older W.S. Hawaii mast extentions. I find
that even with the shim they don't fit snugly into my masts. Is it
o.k. to sail with them like that or should I find a tighter shim?

Hi, I am hoping someone out there can help me with this predicament...
I was told in a local store that I could use a kitesurf harness for
windsurfing as well... this sounds great, as I don't want to have to
go out there and buy more than one harness... for the moment
I am looking to buy a harness that is a seat/waist combo, so that I
might use it to advance my skills and save some money.
I've heard that seat harnesses are for beginners/intermediates or just
for plain ol' skool fun (freeriding), while waist harnesses are for
wave and freestyle. Is that basically correct?
One has to be honest with one self and I don't see myself doing jumps
or anything like that within the next year or two (but who knows). I
am a beginner windsurfer just looking to get a good harness,
comfortable to wear and preferably can be used for both windsurfing
and kitesurfing, although the latter is not happening until next year
(and I might not even like it... though I think I will ;-)). I tried
on a waist harness in a local store... a Dakine Tabu size M, which
fitted me very well.

previews)
Just returned from Orlando, what a great show. The new boards and
sails are looking better then
ever and it's always nice to see all the friends and colleges from our
industry. The show was a blast
and stoke from the windsurfing industry is contagious. I can't wait
to try out the new boards, do
I get a new Exocet, RRD, JP maybe a Naish or Starboard Kode? I'm not
sure, and seeing the F2's
and Fanatics didn't make it any easier, I'm going to get them all in
here and have a field day trying
them all out.
See you on the water.
