"Please insert the proper Access Card"

We had a brownout in my area last night, and my older DirecTV
receiver (a Sony SAT B-2) appears to be the worse for it. It's
telling me, "You have inserted the wrong card. Please insert
the proper Access Card." I removed and reinserted the card a
couple of times, but there's been no improvement.

Before I call DirecTV, are there any other diagnostics I can
perform? I don't want to pay for a new access card and then
discover that something is actually wrong with the receiver.
I don't think so, though, because I'm getting the barker
channels okay.

If they immediately suggest that I buy a new access card,
should I ask them to try reinitializing the existing card
first?

Good idea about the power cycling, Bob. It didn't work this
time, but it should have been the second thing I tried, after
removing and reinserting the access card.

However, I'm happy to report that a DirecTV technician was
able to refresh the card, and everything popped back immediately.
I quickly checked my premium channels while the tech was still
on the phone, to make sure that I wasn't only getting the basic
channels. I did lose my Custom Stations list, but it's a minor
annoyance to re-create that.

I use a UPS on my home entertainment gear.
It helps during brown outs and when a car hit a local power pole.
