I recently (a few months ago) upgraded from an SD DirecTivo to an HD
DVR in my Bedroom. I fully expected to receive an HR21, but to my
surprise received an HR20 (idential to the one I already had in my
Den). I was pleased with the experience, so a few weeks ago decided to
upgrade (trade in) my DirecTivo HR10 for the new HD DVR, hoping for
another HR20. However, they sent me an HR21, or rather had an
installer install it (on the DirecTivo swap a few months ago they just
shipped me the HR20, but now seemed to think I needed an installer).
Well, I though there might be controller problems, since I'd had no
conflict between the HR20 and the HR 10, and indeed there are. I'm now
using the HR21 set up to receive RF and the HR20 IR, so that a remote
can control each one without affecting the other, but still have
problems with both controlling the TV and the Sound system.
Now (finally)for the question... Is there any way to set up an HR20
and an HR21, other than RF for one and IR for the other, so that I can
use them both with one TV in the same room? The old DirecTivos, both
SD and HD, had the means to set each up to receive separate IR
signals, but no help from DirecTV support on any way to do this with
either the HR20 or the HR21.

I got a call from DirecTV saying they needed to "upgrade" my HD
receiver or I'd lose channels, and there was a big rush because
they had to do mumble thousands in the next month, and it's all
free for me and a great deal. Now, I don't actually receive any HD
content from DirecTV: I got the receivers (Sony HD100 then HD200 then
HD300) for over-the-air ATSC (which, ok, everybody calls HD, but...)
and I never even bothered to upgrade my dish for the HD versions of
HBO and Showtime that in theory I was/am entitled to.
I asked the usual questions about whether there would be any new
monthly fees and whether I'd be losing any functionality and such.
Absolutely not the rep claimed, though they would want their equipment
back if I cancelled my service. Ah, I said, but I own the HD300 so
I don't really want to swap it for something you own. No problem she
said, I could keep the HD300.

Anyone have any experience with them? I have a DTV HD dish, and it's mounted on the up-roof side of
the chimney, so I can't reach it to clean it in the winter if it gets covered (we usually get one or
two ice or snow storms that cover the dish - at least the old smaller dish - enough to disrupt the
signal). That is, I can't reach it unless I climb on the roof, which I obviously wouldn't want to
do in those conditions. So, I'm considering a heater, but I want to make sure it's a worthwhile
investment before I do so.
Any tips? Recommendations?
Thanks,
Alan
