I bought a Magnavox vhs+dvd recorder mainly to transfer vhs tapes and
old 8mm films to dvds.
I also wanted to record movies off of comcast digital cable. Channels
like Encore, Hallmark, Sundance, Retro, Flix, and even pay per view.
The dvd recorder will not record them. I get a message saying not
recordable in +vr mode. And E45 is in the corner of the screen. I know
if you buy movies on tape or dvd they have copy guard so you can't
record them. But on tv?
My brother said he can record movies on his dvd recorder, it has a dvr
attached to it.
Does anybody have a dvd recorder and are able to record movies? Please
let me know the brand. I've called Magnavox and they are no help at all.
One girl told me maybe I got a bad batch of dvds. I got another
brand, and they didn't work. I called again and a guy said it was copy
guard. I e-mailed them two times,I got two ticket # but no reply.
Thanks in advance if anyone can help me.

Can anyone suggest where to get instruction about
Final Cut Pro, preferably without having to pay $100+
dollars for a video? Are there online sites where we can
copy text and maybe download a manual? I'm aware of
Larry Jordan's "Essential Editing" tuturial that runs on
a computer, but don't have it yet. Is it worth getting?
Can anyone suggest something better?

I've read the amazon reviews that were of little help and was wondering
if anyone has heard anything about this unit.
First, I am hoping to get another sony because there are 2 things I
like about my "old" sony dvd recorder.
Recording speeds of 1hr. 30 min. and 3 hr. are less compressed and
better quality than 2hr./4hr. modes on other brands. Also are more
usefull for most all tv shows and movies because of they are usualy
45min / 1hr. 30min.
2nd; It has adjustments for brightness, color etc.... "Before"
recording. (I'm not sure if the new combo has this feature, but I
would think so)
I will mostly be using this to record off the air (digital tuner)
and transfering tapes. But I may have to use it for recording movies on
HBO from the dishnetwork satelilte dish if my old unit gives out. I am
pretty sure I'm going to have to get it serviced soon, which means I
would be without a satelite recorder for a couple weeks.
I have heard that some people say that the atsc tuner is weak. Any
truth? I have also heard someone complain about not being able to
record a movie off cable. But they didn't say what they were trying to
record and since cable is soo crappy and unstable I realy don't know if ...

I had thought the Canon XLs were of higher quality than
the GL2, but in another discussion group someone said
the GL2's sensor is better because it has a higher resolution,
producing a noticeably better video. Is that true? In another
group someone suggested getting a consumer grade HD
camcorder like a Canon HV20 or 30. They are cheaper
and HD, so what's better about the pro-sumer grade Mini DV
cameras over the consumer grade HD cameras, if anything?

Hi,
I'm not really good in technical problem and I have a message "wrong
zone" ("zone Γ©ronΓ©e" in french) when I read a DVD on my LG DR 275.
I live in France and the regional code is 2. And I use DVD with regional
code is 2.
Somebody can help me for say if it's a DR 275 Probleme and I need a
technical assistance, or if I can find a solution myself ?
Thank you.
Best regards.

I'd like to get a decent camera and learn to make some
documentary type videos. Being a poor boy I'm looking
at older used models. Since I'll be doing some shooting
of lakes and wildlife a strong zoom would be best, so to
begin with I decided on a GL2. But that has no XLR inputs,
so what would be needed to use external mics? Would it be
better to pay a few hundred dollars more for a used XL1?
How much performance difference is there between an XL1
and an XL1S?
Thank you for any advice or suggestions!
David
