My company has a contract to develop some custom software for what is
essentially a stripped down video editing system. I'm currently evaluating
hardware. The input to the system will be a FireWire connection to an
inexpensive camcorder.

The requirement that most concerns me is the ability to have a GUI with a
video preview window on the computer monitor and simultaneously output just
the preview (not the whole desktop) to an attached HDTV device. The client
would prefer a Windows/Intel laptop computer rather than a tower.

What features should I be looking for in terms of a multimedia computer
and video/capture card? Is such a thing even possible on a laptop?

I realize that most people here are not system developers but if you've
seen off-the-shelf editing software performing as described, I'd be
interested in the hardware configuration.

Thanks,

Rick LaMont

  Three HD Videos On ExposureRoom

Author: David Ruether
Date: Sep 21, 2008 08:07

I have three HD videos (well, 720x1280 instead of the original
1080x1920, and they went through three layers of changes for
uploading/streaming which degraded them somewhat) on the web
at http://ExposureRoom.com - which look better than they have
a right to look. Even with a high speed connection, you may need
to play them twice to get them into memory for smooth playback.
At the URLs below for each, select the viewing size you want.
The videos are -

"THE CHICAGO BEAN"

"PRETTY RHODHODHENDHRONS"

"SQUARES" (An Animation)

In about 5 days, I'll no longer be able to access my groups via comcast. Is
there a consensus as to a good provider?

Thanks,

Ty Ford
