Edmonton Police Brutality - City Can't Even Give Away Free Trips!! Repost

In a banner headline story on the front page of the Edmonton Journal, for
Thursday 13 July 2006, is a very interesting story. The neadline reads:
CONTEST OFFERS TRIPS TO CITY,
BUT COULDN'T GIVE THEM AWAY

Edmonton, in a desperate bid to get some tourists to visit this crime capital,
even offered FREE TRIPS all expenses paid, to random couples around Canada.

Instead of finding lots of takers, instead they found complete disdain, with
one couple saying they wouldn't even think of going there!

Guess all the bad international and national publicity about Edmonton Police
brutality is starting to have an effect!!

Since last fall, hardly a week goes by, without another scandal involving
either Police fraud, or police brutality.

Then there are all the unsolved MURDERS!!

If I really really promise not to got to Edmonton, will you stop?

That should be easy to do, since I am not exactly sure where it is.

Edmonton is not a tourist destination, so it's no surprise. It's like
offering free trips to Houston Texas.

I was in Alberta earlier this year, and the last place I'd have bothered
to have gone is Edmonton. Jasper, Banff, etc., are where tourists want
to go in Alberta. Alberta is a very child-unfriendly province in terms
of restaurants, with a great many restaurants banning children, so it's
not like families are lining up to vacation in Alberta, other than
visiting the national parks.

I guess there's always the mall in Edmonton, but the novelty of the mall
has worn off.
