where to stay in Budapest

My travel friends have lost their contact in Budapest and now we
must decide on good accommodation when we go this Fall. Any good
suggestions (excluding expensive hotels) for location,
cleanliness, service? Thank you a lot.

What sort of accommodation do you think for? Hostels included?

I liked the Ibis Vaci Ut. It's not the most central location, but is
actually walkable to the centre of Pest (good 20-30 minutes though.)
However, it's right next to a busy subway station, and on good bus
routes etc. Some of the rooms on higher floors have great views of the
city from their balconies. We were lucky enough to have such a room! Ask
for the 8th floor or above if possible.

A similar good place is the Hotel Helia near to Ibis. Helia is beside
the Danube 5-600 meters from Ibis.

That's good to know- thanks. I tend to choose the Ibis because they will
usually accommodate me on non-smoking rooms, and if I do want breakfast
there, I can usually rely on a smoke-free atmosphere. It's true that as
rooms go, they are very much the same, but character in a room usually
doesn't interest me much as a traveller.

Most of the hotels are generally non-smoking with designated place to
smoke.
It is especially true for the restaurants of hotels.

Thanks for all replies. I should have given a little more detail.
Hostels are OK, and so are Pensions, Apartments, etc.. We have
been advised to see:
- Castle Royal Palace
- Fisherman’s Bastion
- Matthias Church
- Gellért Hill
- Chain Bridge
- The Great Synagogue and Jewish Museum
- Parliament Buildings
- Statue Park
- Gerbeaud
- Szechenyi Gyogyfurdo baths

Any suggestions for additions/deletions? We would like to stay for
2 nights within walking distance or easy-reach by public
transportation.

Thank you once again.
