Istanbul

Hi,

when I travelled to Istanbul, a good place to go was always to Sheraton
Hotel near Taksim square. From the bar on the top floor of the building
you had a great view over the Bosporus and the old part of Istanbul.

As I have not been to Istanbul for nearly 10 years, I wonder if this is
still possible. Perhaps there are meanwhile other places like this ...
?

I will be in Istanbul later this year and I am looking forward for
every hint!

Thanks in advance,
Henning

Seriously, what is so great about the Taksim area that one would want
to use it, and not Sultanahmet, as a base? I am going in April and
wondered.

I absolutely recommend the Side Hotel - situated close to between Aya Sofya
and the Blue Mosque. best combination of location, quality and cost. I
have some notes on it at

(the only page of the site that is done.. please ignore the rest).

I have stayed in the Ambassador Hotel. Awesome location in the heart
of the old city, with an included breakfast on the terrace overlooking
Aya Sofya, the Blue Mosque, and the Bosphorus.

They aren't too expensive, either. I'm going back for two weeks in
April and am staying with them again.
