I have the first part of my trip worked out, but I would appreciate
suggestions for the second half.
This would be in June 2009:
Fly into Moscow. From there take the train to St. Petersburg, and
after that the train to Helsinki.
At this point I think I have the following options:
1. Keep moving west to Stockholm and Oslo, then down to Copenhagen.
2. Stay in Finland and visit the smaller cities and towns (or do the
same in Sweden and Norway).
3. After Helsinki just fly into "mainland" Europe.
The issue I'm having, is how similar are these capital cities,
especially when going to one after another.
Also, any thoughts on safety issues in Russia? I imagine it's no worse
than any other major city in Europe or the USA (except Detroit), but
the constant news stories about sex slavery, assassinations and Putin
are not very inspiring.

When I visited Sicily a few years back, I visited one hill town where
there was a one-way road up to the top, where the big church was and
the plaza and a great vie. And I took the one-way road down.
BUT this downward street was much more narrow than the way up. I had
to pull in the side mirrors. And this was a Daewoo Matisse, a very
narrow car already.
So my question for the learned out this is: what if my car was too
wide? how in the heck do I get down? wait until dark and head down
the one-way-up street and hope to get lucky?
Seriously, I have more hill towns to visit in my future and want to be
prepared, thanks,
