Hi Everyone,

Before any cruisers gets panicked. The above does NOT apply to cruise
passengers as far as Bermuda, Canada, Central America, and Mexico is
concerned. The latest, subject to change, is that cruise passengers
will need passports (or other acceptable card) by June of 2009. The
US does require a passport for US citizens visiting these countries by
air.

Hi Jean,

Not a problem. I just did not want anyone to get upset over the
airline requirement if they were taking a cruise and no air was
involved. As I noted, airlines have different requirements than
cruise lines. The cruise lines spent a lot of lobbying $$$ so they
would not have to require passports for a long time. <:+)

Best regards,
Ray

Hi Warren,

If they did not have a passport they would have to work through the
issues with our government. As I said the cruise lines lobbied and
have been successful in adding years to the requirement of cruise
passengers being required to have a passport. With the new rules
announced a few months ago I am beginning to wonder if they will ever
be required to have one.

Best regards,
Ray

Hi Tom,

I know many people do not. I believe I read recently that only about
25%% of those going on Caribbean cruises present a passport. Now there
may be more than 25%% have a passport but choose to use alternative ID.
It is hard to say. I do know a great many cruisers do not have
passports due to it never being required so they don't go to the
effort and expense of procuring one.

Best regards,
Ray

Good information Jean and the subject can never be discussed enough.

As Ray mentioned passengers disembarking at a US Port do not need a Passport but
anyone entering or leaving by Air Transport will.

And as Warren pointed out, if you depart by ship but for some reason you have to
return by Air you can have a real problem. This is something that I explain to
all my clients and strongly suggest that they have a current and valid Passport.
