I have not posted in a long time. I've moved to Nashville during that
time from NJ.
Cruise Review of NCL Gem-5/18/08-
Mediterranean Cruise
Background
There were 3 of us traveling, my husband and I in our 50s and my 18
year old daughter, who is a college student. This was our first NCL
cruise but we have previously cruised on Celebrity, Carnival,
Princess, Royal Caribbean and Holland America. We really enjoyed
cruising on NCL and hope to do it again very soon.
Precruise Stay: My husband, college age daughter and I stayed at the
Hilton Diagonal with Hilton Points. We were given a corner room ,
which was large . The hotel was lovely and modern. There was a Mall
across the street with many restaurants. It was also close to the bus
stop for the Hop on and off Tour Bus. The subway was also located by
the mall. I found the location excellent.

Diane, glad you had such a good cruise and it is also great to hear
something positive about NCL.

I seem to notice that anyone who sails with NCL and is in a room with
concierge service loves the cruise line, but those in the regular
cabins have a lot of complaints.

I did a transatlantic/Iberian Peninsula on the Jade this past March in
an inside cabin and had no complaints ...

In another note, Diane said "I had excellent service on the Gem and so
did people I cruised with that had inside cabins."

Hasn't NCL always done well by its Penthouse Suite guests? I can't
help but think that a lot of Diane's positive experience about NCL had
a lot to do with the cabin she and her family were occupying. I would
not use a Penthouse Suite passenger's experience as a basis for what a
"regular" passenger might experience. I guess it's the cynic in me....

(how's everyone??? I ate Spanish in Newark last week, and thought of
you all).

The Jade was a Hawaii ship that was reflagged ... In Hawaii as the
Pride of Something it had terrible reviews for their service ... They
changed crews on their way to Europe ... and service was very good ...
All seemed to have been told about the poor service before ... and
seemed to be outdoing themselves to regain reputation ... A waiter in
the Italian Restaurant who had a green card and was able to work that
ship was telling us of all the labor strife ... said every week a
lawyer was there ...

I've been on the Jade and the Pearl within the past year and did not
have a lot of complaints - inside cabin on both.

Hope our next cruise on NCL is as good as yours, but alas we are not
privy to such wonderful cabins as you were,we sailed NCL a couple
times, and did not much care for it,but for this one the price was
right, and it is easy to get to from our home,we leave from philly.for 14
days, and we like the 7 days we are to be at sea.
