There is much discussion of this on the Cruise Critics web site.
Cruise ship roughed up by storm near NZ
August 1, 2008 - 3:15PM
Dozens of passengers needed medical attention when a P&O cruise ship was caught in a storm near New Zealand.
The Pacific Sun docked in Auckland after returning from an eight night cruise, marred by terrible weather that caused the ship to
list strongly, throwing people and items around on Wednesday night.
Two women from New Plymouth, on New Zealand's west coast, told Fairfax Media it was "like being in a disaster movie".
A spokesman for Carnival Australia, the company that operates the vessel, said the ship tilted about 20 degrees about 8pm (1800
AEST) on Wednesday night.
The mayhem was caused after the ship encountered seven metre swells and 50 knot winds.
"When the ship went on that angle they were thrown around. People would have been suffering bruises and cuts and there may have
been stitches required.
"Forty-two people went to visit the medical centre. Three people were under medical supervision when the ship came into port," he
said.
He said the tip of one person's finger was injured, but denied media reports that one person lost a foot and others lost fingers.
"The worst injury was a fractured pelvis. Another passenger suffered a fractured wrist," he said.
"No one has lost a foot, and no one has lost fingers. It is not correct.
"The captain was trying to avoid this weather but he came across it and the ship started rolling. The ship rolled about 20 degrees
which got things moving ...

I'm looking to book an Alaskan Cruise next June around the time of the Summer
Solstice for my wife and I. We normally take Princess and they seem to have an
interesting one on the Saphire Princess that departs Anchorage on June 20 and
Arrives in Vancouver on June 27. However I've been watching a Travel Channel
program highligting cruising on RCI's Radiance of the Seas and it looks very
nice. I just want to canvas opinions here on which one people think is better
and why.
Any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated.
TIA
Spike
