No idea how this'll play out, but we're booked. Unlike other cruises,
we used AAA. The base fare for the 2 was $1650, and that was less than
the website and consistent with what George had for us. Unlike George,
though, they also did Princess air, and AAA arrangements for 3 nights
and transfers in Santiago. The cruise won't be cheap with the accursed
air, but it should be fun. George had told me that the original plan
was virtually unworkable, and he was right. We dropped the Austin leg
going, and the Alaskan cruise afterward. There was no savings on the
Alaskan leg AND the air actually made it more expensive. Instead, I
think we'll drive this summer to Vancouver again, park the car and do a
round trip cruise tour.
The ship docks the 4th in Seattle, and we fly out at 12:10, so getting
together is a moot point, anyway. Maybe later in the summer. In the
meantime, you'll be packing for your own cruise.

Does anyone have a recommendation for the best cruises that go to the
smaller locations like the galapogos? I understand one needs a smaller
ship.
Thank you

Bar Harbor caps cruise ship passengers
By Mainebiz news staff (02/14/08)
Complaints about an overcrowded downtown have led Bar Harbor officials
to impose a limit on the number of passengers cruise ships may bring
to town.
The Bar Harbor Town Council voted unanimously Tuesday to restrict the
number of passengers that can disembark at one time to 3,500 in the
months of July and August, with the harbor master able to raise that
number to 3,700 at his discretion, according to the Bar Harbor Times.
The number will increase to 5,500 from May 1 to June 30, and from
Sept. 1 to Oct. 31, the paper reported. The restriction will go into
effect during the summer season of 2010.
The decision is in response to complaints from residents and business
owners that passengers from larger cruise ships overcrowd the
downtown, and buses transporting them restrict traffic, the Times
reported. Currently, the town allows two ships to be anchored in the
harbor on the same day, and larger cruise ships can hold more than
3,000 passengers and 1,000 crew members.
