the future.
A world study evaluated cities on their efforts to improve
sustainability including public transport, local economy, environment,
health, education, recreation and living standards. Melbourne rated
sixth on the top 10 list of sustainable cities and Sydney was nowhere
to be seen.

The broad appeal of Australia’s beloved Socceroos came to the fore
last week when Pim Verbeek’s men embarked on their final journey to
the 2010 World Cup. Their first assignment was in Tashkent, the
capital of Uzbekistan in Central Asia. It could have been the
mystique surrounding their destination, a reaction to the Australians’
stunning 2-1 victory over the Netherlands in Eindhoven the week before
or the realisation that we are now in the final straight of
qualifying.
