Eric and My Throat
December 21, 2006
Just two things I want to touch on in this commentary the first being a
response to Eric Bischoff's rebuttal to my thoughts on his book, and
the second an update on the status of my throat injury.
I have been swamped this week with e-mails wanting my response to Eric
Bischoff's comments about me and my review of his book,
"Controversy Creates Cash". For those of you who missed it, Eric
has responded to my scathing review of his book in his BLOG on his
official web-site. Everyone seems to think I should be irate about this
but in truth I am not. Those who throw stones should not live in glass
houses, so if I think it is okay to openly voice my opinion about his
book he should certainly be free to voice his about me and my career.
The two quotes specifically that seemed to offend the most of you were:
"Actually...Lance wasn't really a significant part of anything
during one of the most significant periods of the wrestling business"
and "Lance didn't have "it".
Let me address these two comments directly. He's right. During the
most significant time in the wrestling industry I was part of ECW,
which apart from being wildly entertaining and innovative never
achieved...

Friends
December 19, 2006
It is often said that in the wrestling business you have lots of
acquaintances but very few friends. While this may be true to a certain
extent I don't think it paints an entirely accurate picture of our
industry or the people in it. The reason I bring this up is, I got an
email asking me whether this was true or not. It's hard to judge mood
in an email but I got the impression the person thought this implied a
real negative nature about the business that I don't think is fair.
I think like with many things when you fairly compare the wrestling
industry to the rest of the world we don't necessarily come out
looking all that much worse. I had a ton of people I considered friends
when I was on the road and we certainly spent a lot of time together
over our years together. Now that I've been off the road for over 2
years that circle of friends, or acquaintances if you like, has
certainly diminished. Does this mean we are fair weather friends or not
true friends at all? I don't think so.
I think this is likely the case with most people in life. Friends you
meet through work or because of work tend to be friends of
circumstance, and at times the job is the only thing you have in
common...

Controversy Creates Cash
December 11, 2006
Controversy may create cash, and the "image" of controversy may
have sold some books, but believe me when I tell you WWE and Eric
Bischoff did NOT create a good book. I generally avoid reading
wrestling biographies because with very few exceptions they are nothing
more than a self promoting tool, and yet another chance for the boys to
"work" everyone into thinking they are better than they truly are
or were. WWE made me believe "Controversy Creates Cash" was going
to be a bit of a finger-pointing book and I thought since in addition
to being Eric's career story it might be WCW's story as well, so I
picked it up. WHAT A MISTAKE!
In my opinion this book is the biggest load of crap I've read in a
long time, and I'm saying that as someone who liked and got along
well with Eric Bischoff. There are two major faults with the book and I
will look at both because I'm in the mood to rant and I absolutely
hated this book.
The first problem is that WWE and Simon and Schuster obviously put very
little effort into publishing books, at least WWE ones. The writing is
bad, the editing is bad and the book on the whole reads like...

Edge Glad He Made Iraq Trip
By Mike Mooneyham
Dec. 24, 2006
It was one of those rare moments of clarity. Adam Copeland knew,
without a doubt, that he was in the right place for the right reason.
Copeland, better known in WWE circles as Edge, "the Rated-R Superstar,"
admits he didn't quite know what to expect when he signed on for the
company's annual goodwill trip to the combat zone.
But the instant his feet landed on Iraqi soil, he says, he sensed it
would be an experience he wouldn't soon forget.
It was a surreal juxtaposition, he says, "hanging out with the troops,
eating breakfast and watching the news," with mortars landing only
several hundred yards from where the WWE crew was setting up the ring.
"That really brought everything back into reality of where you were."
A new experience

CM Punk Newest Shooting Star
By Mike Mooneyham
Dec. 3, 2006
WWE is rolling into town Monday night fully loaded with a nationally
televised Raw and star power galore. The event, which begins at 7:30
p.m. at the North Charleston Coliseum, will feature performers from
both the Raw and ECW brands.
Among the many stars on the show is an ECW grappler who, while not yet
exactly a household name, is one of the most promising performers on
the entire WWE roster.
Twenty-eight-year-old CM Punk is one of the newest shooting stars on
the wrestling horizon, although he's made quite a splash working for
independent promotions over the past several years.
Unlike most of his contemporaries, Punk took a riskier route to the mat
business, getting his feet wet in a backyard wrestling federation in
the mid-'90s before being trained in a more conventional manner.

Diva Respect
January 1, 2007
I figured for tough talk this week I would talk about the WWE Divas and
the lack of respect these girls get week after week. In the weekly
"Random TV Thoughts" section of my web site I commented on a quote
by Michael Cole on Smack Down. The quote was (this may not be exact but
should be close enough): "I Love watching the Diva matches, for all
the technical maneuvers." I commented that this was a completely absurd
statement especially on a show with the likes of Benoit, and Finlay.
It was later pointed out to me that this comments was made tongue and
cheek and was meant to be sarcastic. I completely missed this watching
the show, which is either a sad statement about the attention I pay
watching the show or Cole's delivery. I watched the Diva's match
again more carefully and Cole was definitely being sarcastic, which as
I thought about it made the quote even worse.

Its About Time!! (28 Comments - Read Comments)
December 20, 2006
It's about time!!
Since the late 70's various promoters have attempted to launch
martial arts (referred to as "Full Contact Karate" in the late
70's, "Professional Kickboxing" in the 80's, and now "Mixed
Martial Arts).
My first real involvement in martial arts started in 1976 in
Minneapolis. I trained under then World Champion Gordon Franks. Gordon
was a principle in what was then known as Mid America Karate. Mid
America Karate was also owned an operated by several Black Belt Hall of
famers including John and Pat Worley, Larry Carnahan and Gary Hestilow.

Raw In Town Monday Night
By Mike Mooneyham
Dec. 4, 2005
It's been nearly four years since World Wrestling Entertainment has
brought a nationally televised Monday Night Raw to the Lowcountry. The
drought, however, ends Monday night when WWE brings its top-rated show
to the North Charleston Coliseum with a star-studded array of
characters.
The biggest buzz leading up to the show revolves around the storyline
status of Raw general manager Eric Bischoff. Last week WWE owner Vince
McMahon threatened to can the figurehead GM, and local fans are hoping
to witness McMahon say the two words he's infamous for: "You're fired!"
Most of the top stars on the Raw roster will be on hand, as will the
announce team of Joey Styles, Jerry Lawler and Jonathan Coachman doing
live play-by-play for the national audience.

Storms Rant (49 Comments - Read Comments)
December 18, 2006
It has come to my attention recently that Lance Storm decided to do a
critique of my book "Controversy Creates Cash". Having heard about
his comments on another site, I signed on to Lances' web page to read
it for myself.
Lance did a very good job pointing out the obvious. There WERE some
typos in the book. I pointed that out on my web site the day I got my
first copy of the book. Its unfortunate, and to a degree embarrassing
because, after all, it is MY book and it does have my name and picture
on the cover...so I'll take that criticism and apologize to anyone
who found the book difficult to read or less enjoyable as a result.
As far as the rest of Lances' "rant"...I take it in context.
You see Lance was never a part of WCW when the company turned around in
late 94 and 95. Lance was not a part of the shift in creative strategy
that led to the explosion of the wrestling genre in the mid...
