Panic, disbelief and total shock were just a few of the emotions felt
by 17-year-old Boy Scout Kevin Mink on Oct. 14, 2007. Mink and his
family were on their way to church when they encountered an
unbelievable site on the road.
What appeared to be an early Halloween prank was in fact a life-or-
death situation. "Kevin noticed a shoe in the road and then we saw a
woman and little girl running up the road screaming," Mink's mother,
Terri, said. "Then we saw the car with legs on the hood sticking out
of the windshield. We couldn't see the rest of his body."

Duluth teen becomes Eagle Scout after cancer strikes family
By GRACIE BONDS STAPLES
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Published on: 05/14/08
Caleb Elder stood with three of his best friends, basking in the
moment they'd been certain would come since middle school.
They always understood that they'd take this oath, just as they would
graduate high school and go on to college. When you move up from Cub
Scouts to Boy Scout Troop 2000, you start talking about becoming an
Eagle Scout.
The path was clear enough: 21 merit badges, a community service
project and then he'd be able to put the Eagle clasp on his father's
tie, reaching a goal essential to them both.
Then Caleb's father was stricken with cancer, and nothing was clear or
understood or certain anymore.

Conducting an Interfaith Service

The purpose of this one-hour course is to teach Boy Scout leaders and
Boy Scouts how to conduct a simple interfaith worship service at camp,
on the trail, or during other outings. When we conduct Scouting
activities, it is important that we call attention to a Scout’s “Duty
to God” through prayer at meal times and at other appropriate
occasions.

USS Boy Scout

May 5th, 2008
Deborah Hendrick
Maybe the Boy Scouts of American should lobby the U.S. Navy for a new
USS Boy Scout, in time for the BSA centennial.
This fast (26.2 mph) craft was ordered delivered to the Navy on 5 May
1917, and became USS Boy Scout (SP-53). She was subsequently sent
overseas for “aviation service.” Underway, circa 1916-1917.

A new House bill recently introduced to celebrate the centennial of
the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) with the minting of a commemorate
silver dollar has exceptionally strong bipartisan support.
Rep Pete Sessions [R-TX] introduced the new bill on April 22, 2008.
The bill looks to be soundly popular with an already 296 cosponsors
lined up to provide their early signature for the "100 Years of
Scouting" commemorative coin.
In addition to the commemorative coin initiative, Sessions is also
building support for a U.S. postage stamp to celebrate “100 Years of
Scouting.” Currently, Sessions has garnered the support of over 320
Senators and Members of Congress for a letter to the U.S. Postmaster
General, requesting a commemorative stamp for the 100th anniversary of
Boy Scouts of America.
