Toy Story Mania ride opening at DHS

Author: Thomas Henderson
Date: May 12, 2008 04:09

The new Toy Story Mania attraction (at Disney's Hollywood Studios) opened to
WDW annual pass
holders this weekend.

Page A1 review of the ride, from the 05/11/08 Orlando Sentinel,

Orlando theme-park goers preview Toy Story Mania

-Mr. Potato Head nailed it.

"It's a ride; it's game. It's a game; it's a ride," the 5-foot animatronic
tater barked at guests waiting to board Toy Story Mania, a coming attraction
at Disney's Hollywood Studios theme park.

Thousands of riders -- all Walt Disney World annual pass holders -- lined up
Saturday for a special preview of the 3-D attraction, some of them waiting
hours to play virtual midway games. Disney says the official opening will be
May 31, but the pass holder-only preview continues today and Monday.

When we arrived at 9 a.m. Saturday, the line snaked from outside the new
ride through the Animation Courtyard arch and back toward the park's iconic
sorcerer hat.

  GrAdv, Getting in Right 8-)

Author: Coastin Steve

Went to GrAdv today and I have to say I was impressed.
Went right to Kingda Ka and they were doing the ride op test rides
right as we got there, with ALL 4 TRAINS 8-)
A quick couple rides on that and over to El Toro (which had been
runnng since opening)
Here I was able to get 4 quick rides, able to get back to the
loading platform each time
Next it was over to GASM (which was a walk on). Once again I was
impressed to see all 3 trains there on track.
S;UF had a bit of a line by this point but the 4 wide B & M trains
were doing their job in chewing up the line
After a short break for lunch it was over to Nitro. Here 3 trains
were keeping the line to loading platform only and I enjoyed a handfull
of circuts on B & M's tallest ride
Batman the ride was processing thru at a steady pace and even w/ the
growing crowd was only a loading room wait.
I had noticed that Medusa wasn't running early but when I got down
to that end a sign explained that
"this ride doesn't open til noon" OK, if they're going to tell us that> ...

  Quick TR: Kennywood

Author:

Here's a quick Kennywood TR here on RRC nostalgia week. I'll just cover over
what's new or what's changed at the park.

Ghostwood Estate is the new haunted, shooting dark ride. Yes, the ride is
very good! It's shocking to think that the same company did the theming for
Garfield's Nightmare. It's great how Kennywood has the queue on the ground
floor and the loading area above on the second floor. It's a great space
saver plus the ride uses the old Gold Rusher building which is on the second
level. But they opened up some area around the building for a walkway which
goes right up to the Raging Rapids loading area for a nice view of the water
from the midway.

The line moves in bunches at a time since there is a brief preshow. The
preshow hallway and room are very nicely themed for a haunted house (to the
SF Houdini level) though you take yourself out of the...

I have 1 free day in Chicago next weekend. Is the six flags worth
going to? Is superman a clone of the one in Atlanta? What are the
crowds like this early in the year? Any help would be greatly
appriciated. Is there any parks withen 2 hours of the city that you
would recomeend more and why?

The Great Nor'Easter New Trains- Make-A-Wish Event

Author: Adam Revesz

The world of Vekoma Suspended Looping Coasters is about to change in
the US with the debut of the very first "Freedom Flight" trains on The
Great Nor'Easter on Morey's Piers on Saturday, May 17th! For some very
special riders who tried out these trains last fall before Morey's
decided to purchase two for their coaster, the experience is vastly
improved as head-banging is now out of the equation and great sense of
freedom and flight is now the order of business! Hopefully more parks
will follow suit and not only will the SLC be rideable now, it may
very well be a top notch coaster! The fine folks at Morey's public
relations asked me to pass along the following info. Purchase a
voucher to benefit Make A Wish and earn the chance to become one of
the very first to ride these new trains. See below...

Hey all,

Who's going to SFGAD's Coaster Celebration and Casino Pier ACE Day in a few
weeks? I haven't made a definite decision yet, but I think at least Katie and I
are going and maybe the entire family.
