Time for a 97.1 The Drive plug

Author:
Date: Jun 23, 2007 00:06

(never mind that my handle on the Michigan Radio and TV Buzzboard has
been "971The DriveFan", though I devised it several years ago, and
while the romance has gone, I still enjoy The Drive, and especially
Bob Stroud's on-air moments--truly a classic on-air personality)

Well, apparently The Drive is doing an A-Z starting this weekend.

It's hardly a unique "stunt", but it's the first time I can recall
WDRV doing it since it went to its hybrid classic rock/classic
hits/oldies format (it's been kind of eliminating the 60's oldies from
its mix the last couple of years, alas).

Even still, it's a well conceived concept, even if the ad money goes
to the Mormons (via Bonneville Broadcasting).

Administrivia: The past, present and future of Airwaves Digest

Author: Steve Sobol
Date: Jun 11, 2007 22:54

So, some of you (many of you?) may be wondering what happened to the mailing
list and newsgroup.

A lot has happened over the past few weeks; things that made it impossible
for me to do anything at all with RRB/Airwaves.

So, here's what has been done:

** The mailing list is on my server now, running under Mailman. Mailman has
a mail-to-news gateway feature so I can use it to moderate the mailing list
and post approved stuff to the newsgroup at the same time.

** I had been using John Levine's NNTP server at IECC.COM (thanks, John), and
he had been hosting the mailing list. I'm doing it all centrally now, with
Usenet postings being pushed through news.justthe.net aka news.glorb.com.

** I now can take advantage of Mailman's whitelisting features. Those of you
who are regular posters will be added to the whitelist as I see posts come in
from you. I'll go ahead and add them if I recognize the email addresses; that
way, posts from you will automagically be pushed through to the mailing list
and newsgroup. I can auto-approve you even if you are not subscribed to the
mailing list. If you would like me to put you on the auto-approve list, you
are also welcome to email me at sjsobol@JustThe.net.

** Mailing list management is available at

  Airwaves is alive

Author: Steve Sobol
Date: Jun 11, 2007 12:02

Hello,

This is going to the mailing list and the newsgroup.

Airwaves Digest *is* alive. Those people who want to post to the group/mailing
list can do so by posting to rec.radio.broadcasting or by sending submissions
to

airwaves@lists.JustThe.net

More details to come (hopefully this evening).

Thanks,
Steve the Moderator
