  Re: Antennas and CCRS

Our part is to point out the inadvertent problem caused by the antenna
restrictions, and to see if we can get legislative action. Whether it
be that proposed antennas be given a review process, or some other
such hoops to jump through, we should be accommodated. And in those
neighborhoods there will be some opposition. There is no doubt that
some people won't like it. Lot's of people don't like antennas because
they've been told they don't IMO. My wife doesn't like antennas, but
she really can't tell me exactly why. In the end it 's some vague
comment about "ugly". Yet to me, an antenna is a pretty cool looking
thing, certainly more attractive than a ceramic yard gnome.

I'm sympathetic to the problems of Hams who live in CCR antenna
restricted 'hoods, even if I think they didn't have to be there in the
first place.

So it's going to be a combination of things:

Work within the legislative system to mitigate antenna restrictions.

Collins Radio is 75 years old!

Author: KC4UAI
Date: Sep 19, 2008 21:39

All,

In case you missed the announcement on the ARRL website:

http://www.arrl.org/news/features/2008/09/11/10326/?nc=1

Collins Radio celebrates it's 75th year over the next week, starting
on 9/20/2008 at 0:01 UTC though 9/26/2008 23:59 UTC.

Why do you care?

Well... If you collect QSL cards and would like to get the card that
celebrates this once in a lifetime event, all you need to do is
operate 4 out of the 6 club stations and get a QSL card from each,
then turn in these 4 cards for the special event certificate. It will
be quite a challenge to get 4 of the stations in the next week, but if
you have the time and keep an eye on the DX Spotting clusters this
could be a fun thing to try.

Why do I care?

Well, personally I'll be operating W5ROK for a number of hours during
this event. We are competing among ourselves to see who can do the
best job of logging QSO's. I don’t think I’ll win, but I intend to
make it as hard as I can on the guys who will. I plan to operate
voice and PSK and I need your help getting your call into our log!
