I'm wanting to discuss the RFD for rec.ponds.moderated however someone
has suggested that if I subscribe to news.groups.proposals via google
any messages will get rejected....so I thought I would try this test
message....my news server provider does not carry this group but no way
do I want to be excluded because of this....
If this message appears....then it will reassure those like me who want
to join the discussion that we do not have to wait on the whim of our
service providers....

I know I am replying to myself...but the answer is WE CAN POST VIA
GOOGLE GROUPS....so there is no need whatsoever for anyone to switch IDs
or newserver providers to get their opinions heard legitimately....I
cross posted this to rec.ponds as well as news.groups.proposals and
there was no issue at all....it appears on both groups....

I got the message fine on Giganews, but if anyone has any hassle, feel free
to email me.

I asked my News Reader to carry news.groups.proposals. They now do and they
posted a notice to that effect.

It would be very helpful for all future RFDs if you could
respectfully ask your news service provider to carry
news.groups.proposals (moderated).
If your news server needs evidence that it is a valid group
or wants help setting it up properly, you can give them
the board e-mail address: big-8.org>.
Meanwhile, the Google approach seems to be working.

A lot of people don't like using Google...which makes them even more
supportive of a Usenet group.

I pay for a subscription to a commercial news provider because
I like reading groups with a piece of software that shows
only posts I haven't read in thread order.
I love Google and use it all the time to dig things up. It's
a great archive for Usenet and for the Internet. But I don't
enjoy the page-based structure for staying current with
newsgroups.
See this page for a list of newsreaders:

You can get Thunderbird for free. You need to have access
to a news server to use a news reader. See this page
for a list of some news servers (if your ISP doesn't
provide newsgroups--that'd be the first place to check):

Google is one of many UseNet providers and not a particularly good
one at that.
A note to the folks on rec.ponds and anyone else thinking of a new
group - It is up to the proponent and moderators to drive propagation.
Since most NSP/ISPs only pay attention to their own customers
that generally means doing off-group correspondnce with folks
coming in from new services. Get those folks to ask they NSP/ISP,
it's a social function not a technical one by the mods.
News.groups.proposals is still new enough to be going through the
same thing.
