  Good Dogs/Bad Dogs

The past few weekends have been super busy for us. In that time, we've
hosted an aunt, a cousin, her hubby, dog, cousin's hubby (again), ELB, SIL,
her daughter and grandma and their dogs, BIL, and Rajesh's sister, hubby, 2
nephews, and in-laws. The dogs have been amazing, dealing with all the
chaos, the irregular schedule, all the comings and goings and all sorts of
new people tromping through the house. Pan didn't even bat an eye when the
older nephew pushed the younger one, and he fell on her face while she was
gumming up her rawhide. IOW, total angels.

I got up very early yesterday to see the BIL off, opened the container where
the dogs' food is kept, realized that we only had a tiny bit of the mixer
food (Fromm Duck and something) left, and portioned it among the dogs,
although they normally don't get mixer kibble for breakfast. Dogs acted
like they were starving, and Pan was sitting and blowing bubbles as I made
her wait before eating.

Later, as I was reading the newspaper and listening to Pan slurp up the
water like she had been marooned in a desert for a week, I realized
something. The 5 pound bag of dog food had only been opened...

I figure let them think I'm nuts, because I'm pretty much always right.

OTOH, being angels IS hard work and you just don't appreciate that
enough.

What do cats do all day?

I have a feeling that a cat cam on Skipjack would result in a lot of
pics of the back of the couch. Now, a dog cam may be worth looking at!

  Kiba goes to the vet...LONG

Author: Phyrie

I decided to give Kiba one more series of vaccinations now that he's a year
and a half and stop there. I will probably keep up with rabies, though, as
we do have it in our area, and we may want to travel to the States with him
at some time. Today he had his check-up and shots. I was a tiny bit
nervous about his weight, as I thought he was a little heavy a few months
ago. I have adjusted his food intake, and cut out snacks/training treats
for a while, except for kibble as rewards. He has a visible waist and
"feelable" ribs, but it's pretty easy for a Cavalier to get too big, so I
was a little anxious to see what the vet thought. Kiba has also been
"scooting" and a Google search lead me to "anal glands". Ugh. This
something totally new to me. I didn't even know they existed...

advice needed on severely neglected Eskie

Author: Jim Manson

Hi,

I am thinking about taking in a rescue, a 5 year old American Eskimo
that was severely neglected by his prior owner. The dog is currently
in a foster home. As far as is known the dog was in a stall in a barn
for it's entire life with little or no contact with people or other
animals outside of being fed.

I have experience in rescues and have dealt with an abused Klee Kai
successfully. The problem is that the Eskie almost seems to be, for
want of a better term, autistic. He is not aggressive at all or
fearful...

Dear dog whisperers I need your help for a small problem.

I have a friend who in a fit of loneness has bought a dog. He is very
good with the dog walks it, looks after it

He lives in a apartment and in Australia you are not allowed to keep a
dog in an apartment. If his landlord finds out he will be kicked out.

My friends job requires him to go on trips about once every couple
months for about a week at a time.

I have offered to look after his dog but I have a German Shepard his
dog is a small fox terrier.

They get on fine have and seem to have a lot of fun,

EXCEPT

1. When I am close by.

2. Meal times.

I have tried putting two plates far away from each other but they both
want the same plate at the same time.

Tips suggestions gratefully accepted

  Duke is broken

Author: Mary Healey
Date: Jul 21, 2008 15:05

Duke has this really awful habit of circling around and stopping in front
of me when we're walking. Normally, this is merely an annoyance (I AM NOT
A MAYPOLE!), but I crashed into him good yesterday when he stopped in the
middle of an intersection, and stepped on his foot.

He seemed fine when I checked him over (on the far side of the
intersection), but was just slightly "off". Once we got home and he'd
rested up, he was gimpy as heck. I thought he'd sprained or maybe even
broken some toes, but his foot is cool, not swollen, and not tender. His
*shoulder*, OTOH, is very sore. His gait becomes more regular once he's
moving around, but the poor guy is really having trouble getting onto and
off of his favorite furniture.

He's going to hate being left at home while I walk the other two.

  Anal Sac Awareness

Author:

A friend's dog that had chronic anal sac impaction just died due to ANAL SAC
ADENOCARCINOMA.

I always suggested she take her dog to the vet, but she thought that I was
just anal about burning money by having everything checked out by a vet if
something was wrong. Having it checked by a vet may have saved her pet's
life. Now she's heartsick.
