We have been out of town for only a few days and all kinds of strange
things have been taking place in the rpca. We obviously need to beef
up the security at the doors! I wonder if there is a security cat
that can smell troll before it gets within 30' of the front door? Any
way, we were in Rio Rancho, NM judging a state championship bbq cook
off. We had a wonderful time watching participants prepare their
smokers and their food, we enjoyed the pig races and wandering through
the vending areas. I almost bought a stone bear for Joel. The only
reason I hesitated is that the guy selling his wares didn't look
american indian and I know Joel would prefer his bear fetish to be
authentic North American Native Indian. On Saturday we judged bbq.
There were at least 60 teams and 60 judges met for...

To change the subject to something a bit lighter than we've been seeing here
lately. Here's my quote of the day...
"The average pencil is seven inches long, with just a half-inch eraser - in
case you thought optimism was dead." ~Robert Brault

The neighbor's cats, Schwartzy & Fetters, are very well behaved kitties.
They never go up on the [golf course] green behind Mom's house unless the
neighbor is with them. No one golfs on Monday; it's maintenance day. So
she was out there with the kitties, planning to head up on green so they
could roll around on the shorter grass. But wait! Someone apparently left
a golf ball by the green. Oh boy! A round thing! They were pawing at it
curiously; hmm, it sort of rolls. The neighbor tossed it; two furry black
streaks chased after it. They spent a good ten minutes batting it around.
It was so cute to watch, even if neither one actually landed the ball in the
hole :)

I have had insomnia in different degrees all my life, and over several
years, learned to have some control over it. I have gotten pretty good at
controlling the kinds of anxiety-producing thoughts I tend to have, and
shutting them out so I can relax. Parents, job, relationsdhips, economics,
politics, the world, etc. I've been pretty successful in shutting them down
so I can get to sleep. Thank goodness I don't have kifd
There just seems to be one kind of thought that I can't do anything about.
And that's worries about my boys. I haven't had a decent night's sleep
since before I took Stink to the vet on Thursday.
If I'm all wrecked from lack of sleep, I can't care properly for the boys.
So a special request for even more purrs-- could I have some relaxing purrs
for the nighttimes, too?

Dear fellow kitties, be very careful. Your mommies and daddies and grandmas
may sweet talk you and tickle you in places you like, and give you treats
and nip, but behind it all may be a BIG NEEDLE THAT THEY STICK IN YOU and
expect you to just put up with it!!
I have always prided my self on being a civilized gentlemen, but by Ceiling
Cat, THERE ARE LIMITS!!!
Is this the thanks I get for almost 17 years of devoted mousie and greebling
control, relaxation therapy, rather high-level comedy, if I say so myself,
and endless snuggles, kisses and purrs?
Up with it I shall not put!!!
Stinky
Theresa here:
Oh my darling, if only I could make you understand.
And he didn't. As I feared, on his home turf, Stinky was a much tougher
patient than in the vet's office. Even with Mom helping, I failed twice to
get him to keep still, get the line to stay in, managed to spray us all
with subQ fluid, and got Stinky thoroughly PO'd with us-- making those
jungle-cat noises, as we tried to hold him.

I am taking Rusty to the vet for check-up and vaccainations today.
Appreciate purrs that everything is fine. Rusty is not quite himself
lately and I suspect something may be bothering him. Thanks!

Just to add to my general woes- some more scaffolding has been put up
at the back of the house! Dunzi has seen it and keeps heading for the
door!
Not after the last time!

And this one is really touching our hearts. :<
The little black and white girl from across the street always comes for a
hand-out of the "good stuff" (left-overs of what our cats don't eat). She
has never been spayed, unfortunately - her "owners" seem to find the money
for everything else but her - so occasionally there are toms hanging around
our yard also.
About a week ago Socks (which we call her even though her owners call her
"Nibbles") came pawing at our back door asking for snackies. As soon as we
put some Science Diet dry outside (we stopped feeding ours dry so we had a
lot to give away and did until it was gone), she backed off and allowed one
of her "suitors" to eat. There was this starved-looking orinj-stripey boy
who proceeded to gobble up every last kibble from the bowl - and all of the
kibble from THREE bowlsfull when we kept refilling the bowl. Orinj-stripey
knew he'd hit the jackpot, so he stuck around.
