  Four Feb 10 2008

Author: Charleen Welton
Date: Feb 10, 2008 13:59

Well Four has taken one big step backwards and one small step forward.
Although his wound is small relative to what it was it is still open and is
again infected. Our hero, Dr. Mulero, is semi-retired and is only in the
clinic on Thursdays. I will call tomorrow, Monday, and ask that another vet
review Four's file and represcribe his antibiotic. Hopefully Four will not
have to go to the clinic. I hope I will be able to pick up the meds and
start him immediately. Purrs please that that will happen.

The step forward is that somehow or other the doors between the porch and
laundry room and then the laundry room and kitchen were left open and Four
strolled on into the kitchen. Victor Velcro was at the other end of the
kitchen, which is moderate in size, and there was looking at each other but
no hissing or fur puffing. Four returned to the porch. That is a good step
indeed!

The following link is to three pictures. One is of Four the other two to
the porch where Four lives.

As long as he wasn't with you at the bar. :)

My 21st birthday seems so boring comparing it to everyone else's fun
stories... The most memorable thing I did was walk into the HR office
and fill out some forms, because you need to be 21 years old in order
to enroll in a 401(k) plan. Then, I was unceremoniously shipped off
on a business trip to negotiate a joint project with some nanoanalysis
company.

  Minus one kitty today

Everett is at the kitty adoption today. I just got back from dropping
him off. So, either I'll be going back at 5:00 to bring him back here for
another week... OR ... I'll never see him again. :( I want him to find
a great home, but this is the hard part of fostering.

OT: Spring has sprung (East Texas)

Author:
Date: Feb 10, 2008 11:51

Spring has sprung! The annual influx of huge flocks of cedar waxwings
arrived last week, early magnolias are in bloom, and I saw a chickadee
investigating -- and finally going into -- the bird house (in preparation
for nesting, I hope). I'm feeding large flocks of goldfinches, but I know
they will soon begin to develop their beautiful color and then will move
north . I have several mahonia hollies that are also blooming. Last
year, cedar waxwings suddenly "attacked" them after the berries formed, and
every berry disappeared in a remarkably short time. It was wonderful to
watch, and I hope I will be home to see it this year.

To get back on the topic of cats: Holly watches the birds when they are
fluttering around the windows, but she is even *more* interested in the
fall/early winter when leaves began to swirl. Duffy has a favorite spot
(well, he has *lots* of "favorite spots") beside the window, but he is more
interested in the warmth from the sun than in the birds. He has very sharp
hearing, though. I often go into the back yard to put out birdseed. I go
out through the garage, but I invariably find Duffy sitting by the sunroom
door waiting for me. It's obvious he knows I was out there and expects me
to come back in that way.

  nurse caliban

caliban has been such a sweetheart after my surgery. i had a drip into
my left hand during the operation, and came away with a big bandage on
my hand after they had removed it. i took it off the following morning
at home, and caliban gave the bruise after the catheter a thorough
sniffing and then kissed my boo-boo all better. aww. so cute.

every day, he gives my bandaged hand a good once-over especially my arm
just below the bandage - there might be some residue of the disinfectant
there, since i can't wash this arm. he is pretty careful about not
hurting my arm, even when he is climbing all over me and wants to settle
on my chest.

here's a pic of caliban giving my bandage a dirty look. mir is in the
background.
