  Missing cat...

or Bastard Cat Trick? Keeping my fingers crossed that it's the latter.

Once again, Samuel Redcat is missing. Just like the last couple times -
as the sun was going down I brought everybody in from the back yard, and
did a cat count. Everybody present and accounted for, except Sammy
Redcat. Nancy and I checked every closet multiple times, checked the
basement multiple times, I walked around the block a bunch of times just
in cased he found a way out of the yard - no sign of Sammy.

I doubt that I'll be able to sleep tonight, but I'm going to try to get
some sleep down on the futon in the living room in case he's outside and
scratches on the door.

Purrs would be appreciated for Sammy to either get his furry butt home,
or show himself.

  Black Cats

I was outside doing one of my least favourite jobs - raking up some of
the debris that collected in front of my house during the winter, now
that the snow is gone. A movement caught my eye - Sammy was cautiously
moving down the steps sniffing interestedly at the air and obviously
having discovered that I hadn't closed the door properly. Since I live
on a very busy street, I grabbed him and shoved him back indoors. I
started raking again, a movement caught my eye - a black cat was
approaching along the sidewalk and for a split second I thought I was
going crazy and had somehow imagined putting Sam back in the house. Then
I realize this black cat was of a more svelte build, wore a natty red
collar (Sam had removed his, as is generally his practice) and was so
leery of me that I didn't...

This is Bridget here in case you don't recognize the email. I have
lost my connection to groups and am using google groups. Please use
the email at the bottom to reply to me personally.

I took Tony in for a dental this morning
The good news - he came out of the anesthetic just fine
The bad new - he has cancer and probably 3-8 weeks left to live. They
didn't even do the dental once they found the lesion.

I am so lost already thinking about when the time comes that I no
longer have him with me. I have cried all day since the vet called me
at work to tell me.

There is one hope. That is that this - a slim chance - might be just
an open sore. I will have antibiotics to give him for 10 days to see
if it clears up. IF it doesn't, it is definitely cancer, if it DOES,
YAHOO I have more time with him.

Knowing the power of what this group is able to accomplish with purrs
and prayers, I am asking for them for Tony with all my heart. And, if
you can spare a few to keep me from crying the whole time while I
wait, I would welcome that too.

And then there's my nephew... (Long, a rant, Not OT)

Got a call out of the blue this morning from my nephew, who moved to
California about 7 months ago. He had been living with my brother up to
that point and had a cat named Jupiter. Apparently he saw no reason to take
Jupiter with him. Until... surprise! My brother is moving to Kansas. In
two days. (Defaulting on his mortgage, abandoning his house, but that's
another story.) And he's not taking the cat.

So my nephew calls me. "Aunt Jill, can you take care of my cat *for a few
days*? I'm getting a settlement check probably by Friday. When I get my
settlement I'll send you the money so you can have my cat shipped to me."
[Suddenly I'm in the middle of a Judge Judy episode.]

I may get flamed for this but I said nope, sorry, can't help you.

This "kid" will be 26 in July. I know him. I'm sure he hasn't given a
single thought to Jupiter in the 7 months he's been gone, otherwise he would
have found a way to get the cat in the meantime. It's not until my brother
said he can't keep the cat any longer, suddenly it's a mad scramble to deal
with Jupiter.

Abandoned Cat (has a good ending!)

Author: jmcquown

John is cleaning out and doing minor renovations on one of his apartment
rental units. Long story short, the people he evicted left their black cat!
He spotted it when he went over about a week after they left, hanging out on
the upstairs deck. It let him pet it (he's not sure if it's a girl or a
fixed boy) but then it got freaked out and tried to bite him. So John
forgot about the cat and went about the business of cleaning up the mess
they'd left.

He said the cat had still been hanging around, but mostly hanging back while
he did his work. But yesterday he felt so sorry for it when it was on the
deck again he went and bought a bag of cheap food and put some out on the
deck (water, too). He said the cat walked over, sniffed the food, then ran
over to him and started rubbing all over his legs. THEN it ran back to the
food and ate like there is no tomorrow! I said, "AWWWWW! Kitty said 'Thank
You' first!" :)

He's going to try to rehome the kitty. Meanwhile, he'll make sure it has
food and fresh water.
