For as long as I have been living here, I have had a minor problem with
cats opening the cabinets under the sink in the master bathroom and
getting inside. I say minor problem because I keep the door shut except
when I'm taking a shower (I use the back bathroom for most everything
else) and all I had to do when done was open the cabinet doors and chase
the cats back out. Then CJ refused to come out one night and I didn't
discover him until the next night.
Sometime buring his imprisonment, he found a small hole in the wall
between the bathroom and a closet - the incoming telephone wire comes in
under the water heater and runs through that wall into the closet where
there is a wiring panel to split it out for the several locations. That
cat enlarged the hole so then I had to chase him out of the closet after
chasing other cats out of the cabinets. The kicker is that closet is
where I store the spare cat food: two twenty pound bags of it.
Since the last thing I need is a cat opening those bags if he gets locked
in again, I started blocking up the hole. This turned into a sort of arms
race: I would block the hole; CJ would unblock it; I would try something
else; he would unblock it.

TV? Television set? What has that got to do with cats? A lot!
13 years ago, I won a nice TV set in a competition (Jeopardy). It has worked
all fine up to now, but during the last months it has started behaving quite
badly. It has started to tell me when I should go to bed, or that I maybe
should do some housework instead of watching it. The TV just switches off
all by itself after a while. 45 minutes, 3 hours, it depends on the TV set's
mood. I can bring it back to life sometimes by the old cure: Banging the top
of it, but it doesn't help all of the time.
So, I'm planning to get a flat screen 32" LCD TV set. Good idea, you would
say, but there is one hatch to it... Teti, my much beloved, five years old
Devon Rex. He just loves the old TV, he uses to climb on top of it, lay down
and enjoy the heat from it. He can stay there for a long time, I think he
believes that I watch him instead of the TV programme. So he stays up there,
smiling at me, warming himself and have a good time.
An LCD tv will not give him the same opportunities. It's too narrow to sleep
on, and it doesn't give away the heat he wants.

Jill, I was very sorry to hear about your Dad's passing.
Coincidentally, the last of Feb. I attended the funeral of a good
friend. Her ex-husband was there, and I spoke with him at length. It
turns out he was a member of Special Forces, and served several tours
in Viet Nam, and also served on Okinawa between around 1961-1972. I
wonder if he knew your father; I bet their paths had crossed
somewhere.

Gotta share this
Yesterday we were thinking about going out today okay in the end we
didn't because the weather has been bad today but yesterday...So I fed
the cats, sat down for a bit then before I did my fortnightly trip to
the vets for the Hills thought I'd do the boxes noting that both of
them had done their business as it were just after eating so that
would give me time to do both boxes before they needed them (I
normally do one a week bur last week I didn't so both were due a
clean) so I put a peg on my nose (as you do), grabbed a bin liner and
emptied both boxes and cleaned them
The cats hate this...they've spent effort making sure the box smells
of them and suddenly it doesn't! Bad enough when only once box is
affected..but both!
Sarsi plonked herself in the first cleaned box and strained and
strained until a couple of drops were produced to rescent the box
Then I put the other cleaned box down Sarsi jumped in and I swear she
went cross eyed trying to put some scent in the box! She managed it in
the end of course

Didn't want to put this in the thread about Winnie but judging by your
email addy you work for Taylor and Francis? The publishers?
Distributed in the UK (last time I checked) through International
Thomson? If you are I would love to get in touch with someone who used
to work with then -Routledge
Dear God! I just want to sit and cry for my good ole days in the book
trade even if they didn't pay so well they wre fun and work isn't now
