Those of you that have been around for awhile know how much we look forward
to this tournament each year put on by Steve Huber. But, those people that
are new or the ones that are just lurking should really try to attend this
event. It's an event that gets you hooked from the start. There's no worries
about being "good enough" to fish a tournament, because we only use the word
tournament just to give it a name. You get to put a face to the names of
posters you've seen in here over time, and it's some of the BEST reoccuring
friendships you can enjoy. We try to do this at least twice a year, (the
other being in Tennessee) in the Spring. Every year the NWC is held in
Rhinelander, Wisconsin, this year it's Sept 4th & 5th and a lot of us get so
hyped up we get there a few days early just...

Need recommendations for a color FF in the $500-$700 range.
What is the difference between the dual frequency skimmer and the
straight 200 kHz skimmer?
Seriously considering the Lowrance X510C or X515C but some reviews
question their reliability.
Will I regret not getting a unit with GPS?
I fish our local tiny lakes here in San Diego County so I thought it
might be overkill.
Thanks

I have been using Power Pro for years on my casting reels with no real
complaints except that it gets a little fuzzy after a while and
progressively loses some of it slickness through the guides so casts a
little less distance, color fades too, but not real bad. It seems like
other companies are really trying to make a better braid, which to me
would be a braided line that keeps its coating, and therefore slickness,
longer. I experimented a year back with Tufline which was just plain
horrible and a complete waste of money. It became literally mushy after
a few trips on the lake and turned a milky pale color; yuk, got rid of
that quickly.
Last week at BassPro I was eying the Suffix performance braid and
thought that coating looked promising, and now Fireline brand (which I
use on my spinning reels) is making their version of a braid, and
there's always Spiderline, Stren has a braid ....????
You have to spend 15 bucks at least, some of those never braids up to
$18 for a small spool, to experiment and maybe throw away if it sucks. I
would appreciate any of your opinions and experiences with the latest
braids - compared to PowerPro would be a plus.

I finally got around to moving ROFB.net off of the SWL server and hosting it
in a new location. E-mail and feedback forms are not yet updated, and I
will be taking down the old scripted photo gallery, but a new gallery will
be added, and all the old static photo pages are intact. The FAQ, Charter,
etc pages are all intact. If I get a wild hair I may restructure that
slightly.

I was going to Smith Mountain Lake for a mini vacation and I wanted to get
my father-in-law a new spincasting reel (his favorite) so I ordered him one
from BPS on July 26 thinking I have plenty on time since I'm leaving on Aug
6., 11 days later no package. It showed up on Aug 8. 14 days to receive
it? I've bought from Cabala's and Sportsman guide and had things within 3-5
days including weekends. When I called I was told after 14 business days
and I have yet to receive it they will look into it. It's like this every
purchase from them, what gives?

Sunday - August 10 - Day 206- six days missed
Flint River Bass Club - August 10 Tournament - Jackson Lake - 6 AM - 2
PM
No clouds AM, some blew in about lunch time. Cool (for August) morning
- some patchy fog. Got hot fast. Water temp 86 degrees, green clear
color, some breeze
We took off an partner and I ran a very short distance to a rocky
underwater ridge right at the dam - my favorite place to fish this
time of year. It is an old railroad spur they used to bring in stuff
for building the dam, runs out to deep water and ends.
First pass I threw a jig and pig and partner threw a worm. No bites.
Second pass we both threw crank baits and he got a keeper spot. We
worked it five times and both missed hits on worms. Then at about 7:15
I worked all the way to the dam. As I cast to the point right at the
drum line I told my partner that rocky point looked great but I had
never caught a bass there - and one bout pulled the rod out of my
hand. I landed a solid keeper largemouth on a jig head worm.

heads up people- baitcaster reels are older than the Ford Model T, and
just as antiquated
basically the only reason people used them, was back in 1900, there
was nothing else- only baitcasters and fly reels- spinning and
spincasting reels were not invented yet
anyone that says they can "cast further with a baitcaster" is FOS-
think about it, use common sense
on a spinning reel, the only thing that has to leave the reel, is the
line itself
on a baitcaster, the spool has to turn
there is more friction turning the spool, than the line just leaving
the spinning reel
so there you have it
why do people use them ? for the same reason they like 1970
Chevelles, tube stereos, and battleships- they are a cool relic of the
past
truth be told, there's not a freshwater fish alive, you can't land
with a spinning or spincasting reel
