... and bought a couple of the new Shimano D series Curado. While I don't
know yet if I like them overall, as I just spooled them up today, I can say
they seem to have fixed the one big problem with the old B series Curados
that I didn't like. The minute free to lock adjustment of the spool
tension.

The first thing I noticed was that the spool tension knob was much larger,
and then as I did the basic dial in for the baits on the rods I found that
there was a lot more travel between free spool and lock down making it much
easier to dial in the reels for the baits.

I like the cover staying attached to the reel too when you open it up to
adjust the brakes. I don't know if I like the new brake lock setup, but
there does seem to be more room to get your finger tip in there.

I picked up a 5:1 for cranking, and a 7:1 for buzzbaits. I recon I'll cast
a little bit with both of them tommorrow to see how they do.

  Fishing Tournament

Author: JD
Date: Feb 29, 2008 10:49

Hey folks,

I know most people are reluctant to see advertisements on these
discussion boards, but here is one anyways. I'm an instructor at
Western Kentucky University, and my students have been charged with
putting on a charity fishing tournament. This is the 4th year for the
event and we are trying to get the word out to those interested in
participating.

I won't bore you with detail here, but if your interested in the event
check out our web site for more details. If the web site doesn't
answer questions you might have, don't hesitate to email or respond
here and I'll try to fill in any blanks.

Thanks and I'm sorry if this was inappropriate,

  Interesting Study of Bass movements

Hey,

Getting cabin fever and doing some research on some local lakes by me, in
anticipation of spring fishing, if it ever gets here. Anyway, I found this
information very interesting. It discusses how Bass move if caught in one
location and released in another. Such as in Bass tournaments where a lot
of anglers catch Bass in one area, take them to weigh in only to be released
possibly miles from home, or in an entirely different system altogether. The
possible implications are food for thought, such as Bass populations
declining in a particular watershed to a point of where it could effect the
entire balance of the system, simply by releasing the fish in another
location. It's rare that they make it back home after weigh in.

As they suggest in the article, it might be a better way to go by having
multiple weigh in locations during heavy tournament season. Anyway, as I
said, it's food for thought and an interesting read. To tell you the truth,
I never really thought about it, but I probably should have. Maybe we
should start taking more responsibility when it comes to fishing if were not
C&R ing directly after the catch?

John and Jordan won the Aim Marine Series Tournament Sunday with a 20+
bag....anchored by a 10.4, and a 5.0.

Cold, windy, rainy day...and it was in southern California. :)

Just as an update, I found the three fishing episodes from the 2007/2008
season are now uploaded. One is a bass fishing show from near my home, the
other two were shot in Florida, one a peacock bass show and the other
inshore fishing for whatever bites.

can anyone give advice on sospenders

This site the place to go for real good advice.
I do mostly pond fishing from a Fishcat or an inflatable pontoon.
Bass pro has about 10 different types. I am hoping to be able to get
something for about $160 or so.

Thank for any advice.

Hey Warren, if your out there, did you ever get back to that pond I showed
you?

  RE: Worst Fishing TV shows

The worst one for me is Waters and Woods with John Gilespie. It's a
regional show and he is from WI. His dad was a well liked TV sports
reporter in Milwaukee for 30 years or so.

The show has great guests that really do know their stuff and can
explain it well.

The problem? John can never let his guests speak their piece without
interrupting them. He shouts the same phrases incessantly! He talks
like an excited 10 year old kid. Some of his guests, when they are
behind him just shake their heads in disgust. His product plugs are
at the point now that he resembles a dog salivating over a female in
heat.

When I see it on cable now, if there is nothing else on to watch, I
turn the volume off on the TV and turn on the radio for music.

  Worst Fishing show on TV

Author: Mike Getz

I know I replied in another thread about Steve's Show, This in no way
includes his program. I'd like to hear what others think is the worst
fishing show on TV and why.

Fish TV, WORST fishing show ever. Guys act like giggling school girls. All
they say is whoa, got a big one. Dude holds up a pike and claims it's 30
inches, if this is true then this dude must be 10 feet tall, just compare
his arm length to the size of the fish?

These are the same clowns that were "slaying" 9 inch crappie and calling
them slabs.

Know that I know which one it is I can save myself from them.
